Publisher's Summary

Deadly competition. Deep desert. A dying tyrant.

Finn Harris was declared the Mage Guild's champion.

However, that was only the beginning of the Emir's competition. The next stage will send Finn and his companions deep into the desert north of Lahab in search of a long-lost relic. The magical artifact is said to be held within the Abyss.

Except, this time, he's not just facing novice mages. Everyone in the region seems to be arrayed against him, god and man alike. Racing against the other two champions, swept into the middle of a conflict between the Emir and those he's wronged, and at the mercy of a manipulative fire goddess, Finn must battle his way through the Abyss and claim his prize.

Yet he will not stop, and he cannot afford to fail - not with Rachael's life hanging in the balance.

He will need to embrace his gifts and overcome his past.

Finn will need to become a true prophet of the flame.

felt like the story was dragged out

the first book was a lot more exciting. in this book they are basically stuck in a pit for 80% of the book. I felt like a lot more could have happened in the time it took to Read this book.

Excellent.. except..

Flame was excellent, a great mix of emotions throughout the book leading to an epic conclusion. Except it didn't. Portions of the book were moderately guessable, you knew what was coming long before the characters put two and two together. This doesn't take away from the enjoyment I read, just made it sweeter when it came yime to confirm I was right.

Excited for the next A.O. book, hope it keeps me as entertained as this one!

chalky flow

I thought the book was really good. Although the narrator was tough to listen to some times. and some of writing had really intense scenes that are abruptly interrupted by the protagonists thoughts or something else, and Its quite jarring, being lost in the story then pulled somewhere else in the next paragraph listening to the protagonist explore his feelings that dont seem to match the emotional environment of his surroundings. all in all I thought it was pretty enjoyable l. 4/5

Very good everything, this book is a good journey.

Very Pleased with the story. Eagerly await the next book. Some Parts tended to never seem to end but the reasons will make sense later on.

Great setup for the next book without feeling cheated with a needless Cliffhanger as far too many books tend to do.
