Publisher's Summary

When actress Claudia Christian flees a troubled childhood and moves to Hollywood at age 17, she steps through the looking glass into another world.

From the set of Dallas to her starring role on the sci-fi series Babylon 5, Claudia's affairs with billionaires, supermodels, rock stars, and celebrities are mixed with shootings, stalking, heartbreak, and betrayal. On set and off, drama follows Claudia - an alcohol-fueled coke run and makeout session with a bridesmaid on her wedding day; her tempestuous, love-hate relationship with actor Angus Macfadyen; the conspiracy theories surrounding her ex-husband's death; and a 20-year on-and-off relationship with billionaire Dodi Fayed before he dated Princess Diana. Hollywood life takes its toll on Claudia as she descends into alcohol addiction and a desperate battle to reclaim her life.

Rehab, alternative treatments, and even hypnotism can't break the cycle of alcohol abuse that threatens to destroy Claudia. Close to despair she discovers The Sinclair Method, a treatment that saves her life.

Sometimes shocking, often humorous, always captivating Babylon Confidential is a story of hope that will inspire and enlighten you.

Lacking

Like many who will likely pick this up, I'm a fan of Claudia Christian's work, largely but not entirely because of Babylon 5. I had read the occasional thing about her difficult life in show business and hearing the real story from the source was appealing. I didn't dislike my time with this memoir but it's not what I expected or hoped for.

Ms. Christian definitely had a unique upbringing, breaking into show business at a very young age and unfortunately, being used and abused by Hollywood in the ways many child stars often are. This, combined with what I can say politely are some very poor life choices she made (but doesn't really take responsibility for her role in), led to a rather sad adult life where she had a lot of success but constantly battled with inner demons and addictions that constantly derailed it. I will say though that I still greatly admire her resolve and ability to push through her struggles and always find a way to land back on her feet. Many people (including myself) would not have been able to do so and likely would have given up well before she did. Her initial choices may not be something to be a role model on but her drive and determination certainly are.

What baffles me though is Ms. Christian completely ignores talking about many of the other artistic endeavours she did, such as her experimental music album (which I own on CD and thought was great) and the number of other stories she's written, not to mention her other acting endeavours in video games, which she only barely touches on but which I would argue contributed greatly to her still strong fanbase.

Don't let the length of this program fool you, it's a meatier one than it seems. Ms. Christian does a good job of narrating it but also does so very quickly. I literally checked after starting it to make sure the playback in the app wasn't sped up.

There are some good stories in this but as a memoir of someone with such a complicated past, I had hoped for more from it than I got.
