Publisher's Summary

Seventeen years ago, Quinn McKinley left her small town of Kingsford for a shot at a happier life. Now a successful real estate agent in New York City, she's brought back on behalf of a client, begrudgingly accepting her return home in order to close the deal of a lifetime.

Coming back opens doors she's done her best to keep closed all these years, namely, how she felt about her childhood best friend, Sawyer Kent.

Sawyer's spent her whole life in Kingsford, working at her family's antique store and trying to make everyone happy. Quinn's return is unexpected, knocking her routine existence more than a little off balance. She's still frustrated at how Quinn left things between them, and even if she has all kinds of unresolved feelings, she's got bigger problems to worry about right now.

Contains mature themes.

Too predictable

This story was well written and very well performed. Having listened to several of the authors books recently, this was just too predictable for me to enjoy. I’m all for happy endings but there’s gotta be something to keep people interested. Also, how many lesbian romance novels do we need where a woman leaves her down for 15 years only to return and reunite with the woman of her dreams? Come on.

Seems better in the synopsis

It's not a bad book, just felt like something ordinary that might have happened around you. The plot dragged a bit and if you are looking for an emotional experience, as fiction is supposed to provide, you normally want either drama, or when not a sweet romance, the thrill and elaborated ups and downs of an interesting dysfunctional love. I found none of the above. I also found it a bit hard to believe that the two main characters were in their thirties and still acting like teenagers about feelings they knew they had for each other when they were adolescents. There was more than enough time to "process" any remaining confusion during the time they were apart, and the "confusing feelings" and hesitations last until the very end.

Sweet romance

Monica MacCallan brings her characters to life and weaves the sweetest stories. Back in Your Arms is a tale of unspoken love that is given a second chance. Quinn and Sawyer are characters you can easily sink into as their story unfolds. Heartwarming and steamy.

It’s okay

The whole book is about two characters who love each other but never get together until the last chapter… I would’ve rather read a book that had more to it than that.

Have you ever made a big mistake ☹️😢

One of the most wonderful experiences romance novels allows us to have, is to share character’s efforts to repair mistakes they made in the past.
Regretfully, life most often does not provide us, the reader, with that same indescribably delicious experience.
Of course, that is at the core of all the HEA novels we devour.
In my mind,
Ms. McCallan is an expert in this genre and she is the reason why I read ALL her books.
I despise when reviewers think that recounting the entire story line is helpful. All it does is frustrate the readers. Their are professionals who do it far better.
All I will say is that the story revolves around the disintegration of a family and a decision by one of the protagonists to run away from the turmoil.
In the process she becomes very successful at the cost of her ability to love.
Fate steps in and she is afforded the chance to restore her soul.
The characters are great. I cheered for all of them.
And above all, god bless Lori Prince and her inate ability to touch our heart like a violinist touches her strings.
Thanks to both of you!
🥰

Subverted my expectations.

Surprisingly didn't fall into a lot of expected tropes. It was less misunderstanding or lie driven and more down to earth and relatable. it was just two people who weren't ready yet, and that's fine. Also they didn't blame the person who left a bad situation like some books do. So I give it credit, it did things better than other books with a similar plot.

Kinda disappointed

I really enjoyed the story in the beginning but halfway through I got fed up with the miscommunication. (Spoilers) 2 months of seeing each other and the house she’s selling has never been brought up?? A lot of people in their 30s talk about work when catching up and especially if it keeps bringing them to a place they haven’t been in 17 years.

expect to cry

with the history these characters share, seriously crying is just what's going to be in your future. this love story is still beautiful, even if the characters have tragedy in their past.
