Publisher's Summary

Ever have one of those days where life just plain sucks? Welcome to my last three months - ever since I caught my can’t-be-soon-enough-ex-husband cheating with his paralegal. I’m 35 years old, and I’ve lost my NYC apartment, my job, my money, and frankly, my dignity.

But the final heartache in the suck sandwich of my life? My great-aunt Maggie died. The only family member who’s ever gotten me.

Even after death, though, she’s helping me get back up again. She’s willed me the keys to a house in the burbs of all places and dared me to grab life by the family jewels. Well, I’ve got the vise grips already in hand (my ex should take note), and I’m ready to fight for my life again.

Too bad that bravado only lasts as long as it takes to drive into Huckleberry Hills. And see the house.

There are 47 separate HOA violations, and I feel them all in my bones. Honestly, I’m surprised no one’s “accidentally” torched the house yet. I want to, and I’ve only been standing in front of it for five minutes. But then, my grumpy neighbor tells me to mow the lawn first and I’m just...done. Done with men too sexy for their own good and done with anyone telling me what to do.

First rule of surviving the burbs? There is nothing that YouTube and a glass of wine can’t conquer. Well, unless it’s your hot neighbor.

An addictive listen to get caught up in over a day

The narrator has a dreamy voice, the premise was great, but some parts didn't quite jive with me near the end.

Entertaining and easy to follow

I loved the narration of this book. Lots of emphasis and emotion.

The story was fun to read. I listen to books on my way to and from work and I couldn’t wait to hop in the car in the morning and listen to the story. Pacing is good and characters are well developed.

Couldn’t stop listening!

Was a great listen with humour, real life and just the right amount of vulgarity!

comfort read good character growth

I really enjoyed this book, I found the characters to be relatable and comforting! Nick is definitely a women's "build the perfect man" fixture character. that works for me.

Meh

Too much inner dialogue rambling about things, it at times required some skipping to get back to the current storyline and not her inner dialogue. Not one that I would recommend. I did like the ending.

Yikes

The story is enjoyable and well written enough but there’s a huge issue here: it’s super victim blame-y. The main character’s ex husband was emotionally and financially abusive to her, and her parents (especially her dad) were as well. Nobody in the book ever names it as abuse, and the main character’s big revelations are all about how she chose to to stay in the mariage and to give away all her power. The ex is only ever called an asshole at worst. Super alarming and disheartening that this sort of thing even makes it past editors or is written in the first place without that being flagged. It’s a really big part of the book too, not just a few passing comments.

Fun story

This one was a fun story but also with a serious story line. It reminds you to check on your loved ones because you never know what they are going through, it also dealt with a cheating spouse and starting over, getting rid of all the background noise and being brave enough to carve out your own path but while doing it you still need to let the people that are actually on your side.

Enjoyed this story

I really enjoyed the story, the characters are easy to get relate to. I wish there would have been just a little bit more after they made up like how the divorce turned out , how work was when it all came out . I’m not gonna lie the narrator to me was very monotone . She sounded sad, it made it a little hard to concentrate on the book at first .I really did like the characters and I really enjoyed the book . Kinda want to meet aunt Margaret! I Believe there will be more I can’t wait to see what happens with Sarah with mom and dad I want next mom and dad they sound like a hoot!

Liked the story but

Overall I liked the story, easily identified with the characters heartbreak, betrayal and desire to get herself together. BUT there were times in the story, I would just yell -quit whinging! yes parts of life suck. We get damaged, we have emotional baggage but for the love of pineapple - get over it already

Love this Story

Story evolved through deception, heartbreak, loss, and letting go of the future you had planned and worked hard for. Finally learning to say no to everyone and start making her own decisions. Loved the HEA and the narration.

Please make it stop!

I tried, I really did. This book is the melodramatic whining of a misogynist. The main character is such a clueless Debbie Downer, that I gave up after 5 chapters. I kept waiting for something to happen to make me want to root for her…I just wanted to slap her silly.
