Stockbroker Isabelle Rhodes has a lot of money, a lot of trust issues, and a whole lot of reasons to believe her ex-girlfriend was right when she said that Isabelle sucked at relationships. With that accusation stuck in her head, Isabelle throws caution to the wind and dives into her first one-night stand. Checking that off her bucket list should be something to celebrate - except it turns out that the woman she just spent an earth-shattering night with is actually her newly hired company pilot, Audrey Graham. Mallory Spencer is in charge. As the face of Soho Savvy, the advertising firm she owns with her three best friends, it's important that she's poised, polished, and put together. However, as she watches her friends couple up and settle down, she wonders about her own happily ever after. One thing's for sure. It's not going to happen with that blue-eyed bartender from Showplace. It's irritatingly clear they couldn't be more wrong for each other...or have more chemistry.

Publisher's Summary
Building a bridge between two worlds can be tricky.
Hannah Shephard likes her life, her job, and her perfectly cozy apartment around the corner from her shop. She’s never been one to take big risks and would much rather stay in on a Friday night with a warm cup of decaf and her favorite mystery novel. So, why do her friends insist she needs more?
Plus, Hannah has bigger problems to focus on. She’s in trouble. Well, her bookstore is, and if she doesn’t find a way to bring in some more cash, she’ll be closing the doors of A Likely Story for good.
When world famous romance novelist Parker Bristow accepts her request to come in for a signing, Hannah might finally be able to drum up some much-needed attention and save the shop. What she didn’t anticipate was an unexpected evening and a woman she wouldn’t soon forget. A real romance is off the table. Parker is flashy, sought after, and Hannah is just, well, Hannah. But for Parker, it seems like Hannah might be a safe place to fall.
The question is, what kind of falling are they doing?

Least favorite from MB 😏
It was a bit boring. Didn’t grab me at any point. I love Brayden but this one fell flat. I’m not giving spoilers but I’ve listened to her entire audible catalog and this one rated last after First Position. Hey Melissa Brayden, wire your next story on the step sister and how she gets together with the domestic violence victim. Honestly I’d rather have their story than the MCs of this one.

Enjoyable
I think that one thing that took me a while to get used to was that it was 1st person, thus some things seemed to be in past tense. I've listened to all of Melissa Brayden's books and I can't recall any having this perspective, or maybe I've been listening to a lot of others that have multiple perspectives and the verb tense is different. maybe I'm entirely off, but there was something a bit off to me at the beginning that I had to get used too. Overall, an ok book, not one that stands out for Brayden's, but it's worth a listen and follows some of the same styles as her other stand alone books. There was a nice little shout-out to the Cat's Pajamas that I enjoyed. In terms of characters, I did enjoy a bit of the confidence Hannah had, with a lot less self-doubt than is usually packaged into romances. I kind of bad a Notting Hill vibe in some parts and I don't know if I care for it, but, about 2/3rds in I realized that it kind of steers away from that, which was nice.

I don’t know how Brayden does it!!
Her writing in the “romance” genre is amazing. It is so well done you cannot be a Hannah book snob. Her characters are very real. Her dialogue is witty, shiny, and still very authentic. The story arc is a heart wrenching rollercoaster. To use Hannah’s words “she is just that good.” Oh and the steam, yowza. You won’t be disappointed in this read/listen (the narrator is excellent and makes the story live)!
