Publisher's Summary

Building a bridge between two worlds can be tricky.

Hannah Shephard likes her life, her job, and her perfectly cozy apartment around the corner from her shop. She’s never been one to take big risks and would much rather stay in on a Friday night with a warm cup of decaf and her favorite mystery novel. So, why do her friends insist she needs more?

Plus, Hannah has bigger problems to focus on. She’s in trouble. Well, her bookstore is, and if she doesn’t find a way to bring in some more cash, she’ll be closing the doors of A Likely Story for good.

When world famous romance novelist Parker Bristow accepts her request to come in for a signing, Hannah might finally be able to drum up some much-needed attention and save the shop. What she didn’t anticipate was an unexpected evening and a woman she wouldn’t soon forget. A real romance is off the table. Parker is flashy, sought after, and Hannah is just, well, Hannah. But for Parker, it seems like Hannah might be a safe place to fall.

The question is, what kind of falling are they doing?

Least favorite from MB 😏

It was a bit boring. Didn’t grab me at any point. I love Brayden but this one fell flat. I’m not giving spoilers but I’ve listened to her entire audible catalog and this one rated last after First Position.

Hey Melissa Brayden, wire your next story on the step sister and how she gets together with the domestic violence victim. Honestly I’d rather have their story than the MCs of this one.

Excellent

what could be more appealing to an avid reader than a story about a writer and a book store owner. Answer: One written by a master at her craft. I love almost all of Brayden's books, but I think this might be my new favorite. great story, excellent narrator.

Enjoyable

I think that one thing that took me a while to get used to was that it was 1st person, thus some things seemed to be in past tense. I've listened to all of Melissa Brayden's books and I can't recall any having this perspective, or maybe I've been listening to a lot of others that have multiple perspectives and the verb tense is different. maybe I'm entirely off, but there was something a bit off to me at the beginning that I had to get used too.

Overall, an ok book, not one that stands out for Brayden's, but it's worth a listen and follows some of the same styles as her other stand alone books. There was a nice little shout-out to the Cat's Pajamas that I enjoyed.

In terms of characters, I did enjoy a bit of the confidence Hannah had, with a lot less self-doubt than is usually packaged into romances. I kind of bad a Notting Hill vibe in some parts and I don't know if I care for it, but, about 2/3rds in I realized that it kind of steers away from that, which was nice.

Great story

As normal I cried a few times I loved parker, despite her horrible insecurities. I know this is one of the first reviews and I loved it.

I loved this book. great story, great narration, and finished it in two days. I love a good love story, but love being able to relate to the work it takes even more.

Meh

I am glad to hear that others think this was not her best work. I was starting to worry. The author keeps telling us how are supposed to feel about the characters, but then doesn't actually develop the story in a way that will let us feel that way naturally. So, unfortunately, to me it felt like one of those arguments you get in where someone starts telling you what they think you're feeling and you try to tell them that you're not. It wasn't my favorite. I may try one of her other books in the future. It's also possible that she kind of set herself up for failure here by writing a story about a charismatic romance book author... the story wasn't what I was expecting.

Inane one and a half stars

Where's the quality control in this genre? As dull as watching paint dry. Who wrote those way too charitable reviews? Returning for credit!
