In this book, I have woven two legends about a pact with the devil together. One of these is in Goethe's Faust, the titular character of which is in my story, Jonathan. My character desperately seeks knowledge from the Prince of Darkness to find those responsible for the murder of his beloved young bride Margie in a graveyard 20-some years ago. The other legend is that of Robert Johnson who, at the Crossroads in Clarksdale, Mississippi, sold his soul to the devil so that he could be the best blues guitarist in the world.

Heidi Klose makes the backdrop of the American Blues Highway a living, breathing presence through her colourful characters, witty exchanges, and underlying intrigue: what is it that brings together these disparate passengers on twisty turning highways from Niagara, Canada, to Key West and back through The Big Easy? The Blues Bus takes you on a guided tour of musical locales, a little Cajun lore, and all manner of music, including some sweet toe-tapping original ballads that “drive” you to sing along. Hold on tight and fasten your seatbelts, because Backroad Blues is definitely a ride that you won't want to miss even as it transports you to its inexorable terminal destination.
