Publisher's Summary

Affairs of the heart can be lethal in this sensual, thrilling novel from New York Times best-selling author Eric Jerome Dickey.

As a low-level enforcer in Los Angeles, Ken Swift knows danger, but nowhere does he feel it more than in his tangled romances. Divorced from one woman, in love with another, and wrestling with a strong desire to get to know a third, his life is far from perfect, and it becomes all the more complicated when his troubled daughter resurfaces. Marguax is pregnant, and when she demands $50,000 for her shotgun wedding, the tension-filled father/daughter reunion escalates into a clashing of wills and desires that spread far beyond their family. As raw emotions surface, they ignite revenge, love, longing, desperation, and despair...and the flames just might be deadly.

With the strong characters, heart-pounding action, and intense passion he is known for, New York Times best seller Eric Jerome Dickey lays bare a tale of lust and angst that will leave listeners breathless.

Not Eric Jerome's usual

I've been a fan of his work for decades and even when he branched off and did Gideon I was cool with that. However this particular book the first few pages were more political and more of the n-word then any rap song I've ever heard. it went back to his usual but truthfully I was a little disappointed with the story. I am looking forward to see where the prequel takes you.

Much Better Thab The First Book

I enjoyed this book! And I'm glad that Ken Swift finally got his ex wife out of his system and his daughter back into his life.

Not Dickey's best work

Dion was awesome as always! The story however was quite boring and uneventful. I'm disappointed because EJD is my favorite author of all time and I have never before read a story of his that I didn't like. I didn't hate this story but it was boring. I will say that I did like the use of African characters and the light shed on turbulent relationship between Black Africans and Black Americans.

Too much unnecessary dialogue!

The title of this review pretty much says it all! The only reason I hung in there is because of Deon Graham and his amazing vocal performance. He could read me the white and yellow pages of a phone book (if they still made them) and I would sit through it all. The author on the other hand, I can say his latest offerings haven’t been as up to par. This one I struggled through. Between the political diatribe and the nonsensical run-on conversations in unrealistic situations, I was happy for the skip forward button more than a few times and I’m a die-hard EJD reader. Oh well, maybe better luck with the next book.

Happy for another EJD book!!

I think Dion Graham is awesome! He really brings the characters to life!!! I fell for Jake Ellis!!! Love him and hope he appears again I'm the future!!! The story was good, not nearly as intense as the Gideon series, but I'm a super fan so I could never be mad!!!

I love EDJ But NOT this one!!

UGGGHHHHH this book.... I finished it but it took me two days to get through the first 5 chapters. There was way too much detail and I found it very hard to pay attention.I kept waiting for a better story line or something to tie all together where I'm like OH SHOOT or YEESSS!!! I wish there was a twist at the end. It had a good ending but the middle eeehhh. Not one of his best work. I love his series and Dion Graham. I'll have to read the reviews of the next one before I buy Before We Were Wicked.

Too Much Dialogue

Loved the story and the narrator. However, there was way too much talking between the characters even when it was not necessary or appropriate.

Great ending

Of course Dion Graham is the absolute best narrator. This story is mild but good. Not a suspense. And a wonderful ending

50/50

This was definitely a history lesson. Too much dialogue, although interesting, and not enough storyline. I liked it but gosh no one talks for that long conversational wise be it casual or angry.
