À propos de cet audio

In this fifth edition of Basic Economics, Thomas Sowell revises and updates his popular book on commonsense economics, bringing the world into clearer focus through a basic understanding of the fundamental economic principles and how they explain our lives. Drawing on lively examples from around the world and from centuries of history, Sowell explains basic economic principles for the general public in plain English.

Basic Economics, which has now been translated into six languages and has additional material online, remains true to its core principle: that the fundamental facts and principles of economics do not require jargon, graphs, or equations and can be learned in a relaxed and even enjoyable way.

A clear, concise explanations of basic economics, common fallacies, and their application to real world situations. Very accessible, well written and beautifully read.

a great introduction to economics

This was not an economics textbooks as I originally assumed (and desired). The author makes little effort to hide his conservative bias. Although the fundamentals and key points of economics are discussed in an easily digestible manner, there are frequently spurious conclusions drawn from a combination of basic truths and cherry-picked historical facts. Right-wing listeners will find plenty of emotionally aggravating examples to fuel their confirmation bias, and left-wing listeners may get confused about some incompletely-explored ideas regarding the value of human welfare, government spending, and social services.

The narration is a significant detractor from the listening experience. Although enunciation is generally clear, the narrator has a sleep-inducing pitch and cadence suited to the most boring of college lecturers (which ironically may be very apt for a book on economics). He also needlessly puts on terrible and offensive accents when quoting British, Russian, and East Indian writers.

Basic, understandable, biased, and sometimes offensive

Thomas is a far right crank who can’t stop talking about the Soviet Union as a strawman
