Publisher's Summary

When the cards are stacked against you, the Kings will even the odds.

Former Special Forces medical sergeant Russell “Red” McKinley knows a thing or two about wounds, like the fact some can take a lifetime to heal, if they heal at all. The scars Red carries run deep, and living with PTSD often means battling the memories of his past. Injuries he received while working an executive protection case with fellow Kings and co-owners of Four Kings Security have once again forced past heartaches to the surface, but Red is determined not to let it derail his blossoming romance with sweet and sexy fashion photographer Lazarus Galanos.

Laz can’t deny there’s something special developing between him and Red, but Laz has wounds of his own. He’s hesitant to jump into a new relationship after his recent explosive breakup. Experience has taught Laz to doubt his judgement when it comes to men. Guys who seem too good to be true usually are, and no one appears more perfect than Red.

When an attempt is made on Laz’s life, Red is determined to keep him safe. Laz may not be a client, and Red is still off duty, but Laz is one of their own, and nothing means more to the Kings than family. While an investigation is underway, Red and Laz are growing closer, but can they find a way to help each other heal and take a chance on love, or will their fears and insecurities cost them more than their future together?

Great second book to this series.

Lots of angst, lots of drama and lots of fun. The author has an unerring talent for blending all three into a great tale. looking forward to the next book. I hope she uses the same narrator. He was excellent.

Next card up - Red of Hearts!

I absolutely loved the narration and story! Red is such a sweetheart, but fierce when he needs to be.
Red and Laz met earlier when Red was part of the security for Colton (Love in Spades), so while this is a standalone, it does refer to book 1 a few times. Honestly, to get the most out of this book I would highly recommend the highly enjoyable book 1, it's really, really good!
Anyway, back to Red and Laz - despite their obvious connection, Laz shies away from Red once he's recovered from his injuries, leaving Red to wonder what happened. They reconnect and Red ends up protecting Laz from attempts on his (Laz's) life. Both men have issues that they're dealing with - Red has PTSD and Laz has been abused, but together they deal with their demons. The other characters are fun, especially Ace and they make up the family both men need to help them heal.
As usual, Greg Boudreaux does a wonderful job bring each character feel like someone you want to meet and hang with. He injects his performances with so much warmth, pain, happiness, heat or any expressed emotion that I sometimes forget that I'm listening to fiction :)
Loved listening to Greg and I really enjoyed the story. Definitely recommend.

Be Still My Heart

Update to review after listening to the Audiobook...

Audio - Greg Boudreaux is Amazing. I Loved this narration. He does such a fantastic job with every book he is given and this one was no different. His voices for Laz and Red were great, totally perfect for each character. And I cannot wait until we get Mason and Lucky's book next too..

I Love this author and really don’t think it’s even possible that they could write a “bad” book. This book was Awesome, and I enjoyed it just as much as the first book in the series. You should definitely for sure read book one “Love in Spades” before you take a crack at this book though because Colton and Ace’s book is hilariously great as well; and you will get to know and learn some details from that book that will lead you right into this one.

I love all of the Kings we’ve met so far. I’m glad we get to see bits and pieces of each of them in all of these books because learning about them and their pasts and how their lives are so entwined together is so much fun to see, they all are amazing men. This is definitely 100% becoming one of my new favorite series and can see myself coming back and re-reading these books numerous times in the future.

And…. OH. MY. GAWWWDD… Before I even get into these main characters can I just mention… Spencer and Quinn… If you don’t know who they are run and Grab the book “Beware of Geeks Bearing Gifts” it’s a really funny and cute short book by this same author. I’ve read and listened to that book more times than I can even go back and count. But… They are mentioned in this book. And when I saw that I Totally kind of freaked out more than a bit... I just love them so much and I’ve always hoped we would get to see more of them at some point… Well… Wish Granted….

Red and Laz….

This book is named perfectly “Be Still my Heart” because omg I felt myself actually thinking that a few times while reading this book. Laz and Red are completely perfect for each other and have crazy hot chemistry together. It’s almost a love at first sight with them, they just have that kind of connection to each other. And wow, ok, Laz’s dirty talking when he and Red got together was completely unexpected and ridiculously hot in this book. The main stumbling block they both seem to have though is Trust. Trust is hard for the two of them because of past relationships and being hurt. Laz is dealing with the repercussions from a previous relationship that we actually see the demise of in book one. And Red is dealing with previous lovers not being able to handle his PTSD and his strong bond to the other kings. I think as long as they can get past all of that and communicate their feelings together it will be smooth sailing from then on. I really liked the storyline and plot we get in this book and I was kind of surprised and taken aback with the ending of this book, I wasn’t really expecting it to play out the way it did so that was a good little twist for the author to throw in.

I am completely and totally ready for the next book in the series and cannot wait to see who is next up, and I honestly don’t really care whose book it is. I just want more of these Kings.

The story continues with Red

Red is still recovering from being injured when Laz is threatened by an unknown killer. Red is determined to protect Laz and keep him safe. Erotic romance and story of healing and finding love. Great performance. Recommend.

Disappointing after the 1st book.

The first book in this series had a great storyline centered around manly and butch guys. This book unfortunately was centered around a feminine guy with typical feminine guy issues. Boring and typical.

can't say this one did it for me

this second book in the series was not my favorite, something about weak whiney character mate for such a strong group fell short. What kept me reading is the love I have for this narrator and the other characters in this series.

Boudreaux is perfect for Cochet's Four Kings books

Oh, Red... I swear, the man had such a good head on his shoulders but an even far better heart beating within him. He cared a great deal about Laz and his love and loyalty towards his fallen brothers and those who continue to be by his side made him such a wonderful guy to get to know. My heart broke for him during those moments where he was still in the grips of a PTSD episode. We get glimpses of each of the Kings plus Joker and Jack in every single book in the series, but those are just inklings of how amazing they are once they get their stories told. Now, in terms of Laz, well, let's just say that I may have liked him a tad more in book one than here. Maybe it was because he seemed to be such a pillar of support and understanding for Red for so much of this book and then he reacts a certain way here and goes on to do something petty and I so wanted to smack him upside the head. Aside from that, Be Still My Heart had every bit of MM romantic suspense goodness that I was hoping for. This is the second book in the series and Charlie Cochet's characters have found their voice(s) in Greg Boudreaux. I swear, the man switches from one character to another with such ease that all I had to do was lean back and enjoy my audiobook. I gave the ebook version five stars, but the narration alone brings this audiobook up a level, so now it receives five-plus stars. ♥

Wonderful series!

I can’t wait for the next book. Funny well developed characters and mysteries. I laughed and loved and will listen to both books again as Charlie Cochet builds a wonderful world and Greg Boudreaux is a master at narrating these books.
