I was interested enough to finish this book, but there are so many dumb plot points and unrealistic reactions. I found myself relating more to Kara the roommate, who is supposed to be a huge bitch, than any of the juvenile main characters. She was correct when she said they are codependent. I'm all for a redemption story and cheesy romances in general, but man, Travis is such a douche! Beating the shit out of people all the time in public for basically no reason, and somehow facing no consequences at all?! Honestly this guy would end up in jail and kicked out of university quick in real life. Abby is selfish as hell, rude, strings people along, and acts intentionally obtuse at every turn. She has no real interests or passions other than looking for a boyfriend. Travis and Abby have the worst communication skills as a couple out of any couple I've ever read. Their reactions to the events of the story are either ridiculously extreme (a guy buys Abby a drink - oh no!) or their emotions are basically not even addressed when it's an actual terrible thing that happens near the end of the book that should leave them traumatized. At times it was unclear why the characters were arguing at all about a situation (like when America breaks up with her boyfriend just because Travis was going to sleep with someone when he was single and got broken up with.... like what?!). Just so many red flags in this relationship! I was kind of hoping that they did not end up together so they would both be better off. Not what you want to feel in a romance story.

I loved it! I really wasn't sure what to expect because I had read quite a few reviews on other sites that lead me to believe this book might be filled with abuse or something. I'm not sure what those people were ranting about because I never felt that way about it.

I really enjoyed both characters and found them to be fairly realistic. I mean sure... maybe Abby's background isn't one that most of us can relate to. But come on, it's a novel! No one ever said it all had to be "normal".

Here's what I really liked... Abby: she's down to earth, has goals and wants to make a good future for herself. She's learned a lot of life lessons from her upbringing and is determined to take her life down a different path. Sometimes her determination to stubbornly do so was frustrating for me (ok, more than sometimes lol). But overall I think it was admirable and I had to respect her for it.

Travis: He's definitely flawed, but he's so much more than what's on the outside. Everyone has assumed so much about him and he's allowed them to do so, even going so far as to become what everyone thinks he is. He's certainly not perfect, a womanizer, a fighter, has a temper and a jealous streak a mile long, but he's also got a determination that matches Abby's and he wants to be better.

Their relationship is probably the best thing about this book. It's intense and sexy and funny and heart warming and endearing and frustrating and infuriating and and and... I could go on forever! But I think those are all the things that make it great.

The book is not X rated by any means. There are a bunch of intimate scenes throughout but nothing overly graphic. There's swearing throughout, but I wouldn't say it was over the top. But if you're offended by F-Bombs then you might not appreciate that part.

I also really enjoyed the narration. I often struggle to find a narrator I like and this one definitely passed the test!

I'd recommend this book to anyone who wants a good romance, lots of ups and downs and intensity. The only reason I even discovered this novel was because I Googled "Intense Love Story Books" haha! And I certainly got what I asked for! Enjoy!

one of my favorite books to read and now to listen to. narrator does an amazing job conveying the emotions and pov of the characters.
