Publisher's Summary

Sophia Briar is a lone wolf. On her own since age 14 when her parents died, Sophia isn’t used to being around other shifters. In fact, the one time she did run into a pack, she met her mate - and he rebuffed her. Sophia’s fended for herself all these years, and now, in Michigan, she’s desperate to create a new life for herself. The only problem? It seems her mate has found her, and this time, he isn’t letting her go.

Mason Black is the Alpha wolf of the Northern Territories. As an Alpha, he’s accustomed to getting everything he wants – until Sophia. Walking away from his mate when she was just a teenager nearly destroyed him. Now that she’s back, he’ll do everything in his power to possess her. To own her. To make her his Luna.

The one thing Mason doesn’t count on - Sophia is an Alpha in her own right. A unique species all her own, she’s never bowed down to anyone - and doesn’t intend on starting. Not when Mason left her heartbroken. Not when he doesn’t quite know how to treat her as his mate, and not one of his pack. And especially not when he refuses to see the truth behind the conniving, lint-licking, wanna-be Luna, Roxanne.

Can Sophia and Mason work through their issues, or will they be the first mates on record to give up on each other?

Love love loved it!!!!

Listened in one sitting.... Could not stop it. Funny, suspenseful, sexy (wink wink). This was a great story with great writing, funny and likeable characters, and I LOVE having male voices done by a man and fall voices done by a woman..... Awesome naration! There were a few production bloopers (duplicate lines) but overall it was great...
Highly recommend this book!!! Hope there are more!

Sexy, curvy gal that has loads of confidence

Loved this book of main female character meeting her mate at a very young age. Too young that her mate walked away so she can keep having her childhood. However, as an alpha he can't let anyone know he found her. However when he came back for her she is gone. They meet again but with lots of baggage. The female character is curvy gal who loves to bake and feels so sexy in her own skin. Which I enjoyed alot. Many wolves want her but she only has eyes for her mate. The alpha had a side piece and isn't happy that she is no longer in the alpha bed because of his mate. There relationship is tested over and over with lots of makeup sex. Book reviewed by wife.

I mean....

If Albany Walker was trying to write an actual caveman into the story, she certainly succeeded. Mason was a big dopey idiot with rage issues. I fully expected him to shout "My female! No touch!" followed by grunts and chest pounding. I'm not kidding. This is not a metaphorical caveman but literal knuckle dragging neanderthal. He roars at everyone and threatens to kill anyone who even breathes in Sophia's general direction, make and female. His first reaction to EVERYTHING is violent. He even "loses control" and verbally abuses Sophia a few times... not to mention the fucked up sex in the middle that left her bruised and bleeding because he, again, "lost control" and was only thinking of himself. He's a terrible mate and a terrible Alpha... like seriously, he threatens his brother and his packmates for the smallest of infractions. If they do much as try to question him, he shoots it down and then growls at them for even suggesting an idea other than his own. Sophia has to constantly hold his hand to keep him from flying off the handle and, every time she does, she has to coo at him like he's a child throwing a temper tantrum... which he essentially is. All of this is made worse by the narrator. He wasn't that bad EXCEPT when he narrated Mason. He made him sound just as whiny/ragey as he was written. I don't know if that made him a good narrator or a bad one. I know some narrators can make bad writing sound good... Either way, my ears were bleeding.

Then there's Sophia. I think I would have liked her more up against literally any other H/. She tries to stand up to him but then she always ends up just forgiving him in the end and pretending like it's no big deal. She had potential to be a badass female lead but she let Mason and Roxanne tear her down and make her insecure.

Overall, I really didn't like this book at all. Towards the end, it was actually physically painful to listen to. I made myself finish though so I could give you a full review. Would NOT recommend.

Male lead is so hard to forgive

As a female, I normally hate the main female lead (lol). But this girl is a saint, and hard not to love. How ever the male lead is a jerk throughout the whole thing, even through misunderstandings he does everything wrong. And she forgives him every time, and soooo easily. Honestly sometimes I was frustrated when she didn’t voice all of the issues, and he kept making the same mistakes over and over. Sometimes I had to put it down to calm down for a little bit. But the narration wasn’t bad. Wouldn’t mind a continuing story about Casper.

I want more

At first I wasn’t sure if I was going to like this narration, but I actually loved it. I love shifter books anyway.
The story is great, and I want more of Sophia and Mason.
I am definitely going to be reading more of Albany’s books.

Good

I wish I hadn't read some of the negative comments before hand because it made me nitpick stuff I normal wouldn't have noticed. If you have read or listened to other books by this author and like them, you will like this. There were moments I wanted to slap my forehead or shake the main characters but it was over all a good story. the femal narrator did amazing like she always does but this was my first time with this male narrator. In general his voice wasn't bad but when he would use the growly alpha voice it was too high pitched and whiney that it made me cringe a bit. But honestly overall it was worth the credit.

Heads up! The MMC is a F@&$tard.

This was definitely different from other reads by this author. I felt like the dynamic of their relationship was more realistic... 🤷🏼‍♀️Thank goodness she added the fated mates angle or this would be a tragedy. Basically you spend the whole book thinking that the FMC is “Disney princess personality perfect”, she’s a God$&@! Saint... and her Prince Charming is a total jack$&@. I gave it five stars because I actually really liked this book. It was nice to break free from the cookie cutter romance dynamic and see a couple that really struggles. As dominant as the guy is, she never lets him get away with pushing her around. I also loved how the fmc was not afraid to stand up for herself to others and was confident in who she was and how she looked. Overall not a bad read, I would totally read another like this.

TYPOS/GRAMMAR MISTAKES ARE FRUSTRATING

Are books no longer proofread prior to publishing? Do parents no longer teach their children proper grammar? Are U.S. schoolchildren no longer taught proper pronouns? In Chapter 10 - Audible version - typos and grammar mistakes are rampant. With dialogue maybe there were mistakes in the editing of the audiobook - it's just very confusing. Wish I could get a refund.

Could have been better

This could have been so much better if we removed the toxic male controlling hero who is really the villain. All he did to protect his mate led to her being unhappy and in danger. To much sex and rage which took away from enjoying the story.

Good book

So both of the main characters are kind of idiots sometimes but I liked it for the most part. They should do a book 2 about sniffer and Sam where they are both mated to 1 girl since they want to find there true mates but they still love each other. Then they could all be happy together
