Detective Clements knows that people disappear all the time - far too frequently. Most run away from things, some run toward and others are taken but find their way back. A sad few never return. Publisher's Summary
Soon to be a Netflix Original series!
The instant New York Times and number-one international best seller
“You should read Behind Her Eyes.... It’s bloody brilliant.” (Stephen King)
"An eerie thriller...Pinborough keeps us guessing about just who’s manipulating whom - until the ending reveals that we’ve been wholly complicit in this terrifying mind game.” (The New York Times Book Review)
Why is everyone talking about the ending of Sarah Pinborough's Behind Her Eyes?
Louise is a single mom, a secretary, stuck in a modern-day rut. On a rare night out, she meets a man in a bar, and sparks fly. Though he leaves after they kiss, she's thrilled she finally connected with someone.
When Louise arrives at work on Monday, she meets her new boss, David. The man from the bar. The very married man from the bar...who says the kiss was a terrible mistake but who still can't keep his eyes off Louise.
And then Louise bumps into Adele, who's new to town and in need of a friend. But she also just happens to be married to David. And if you think you know where this story is going, think again, because Behind Her Eyes is like no other book you've heard before.
David and Adele look like the picture-perfect husband and wife. But then why is David so controlling? And why is Adele so scared of him?
As Louise is drawn into David and Adele's orbit, she uncovers more puzzling questions than answers. The only thing that is crystal clear is that something in this marriage is very, very wrong. But Louise can't guess how wrong - and how far a person might go to protect their marriage's secrets.
Sarah Pinborough's Behind Her Eyes takes the modern-day love triangle and not only turns it on its head but completely reinvents it in a way that will leave listeners reeling.
What the critics say
"All four narrators smoothly transition between the complex characters and the dark side of this contemporary love triangle. As Louise's sense of disorientation and dread build, listeners will be hooked on both plot and performance." (AudioFile)

Boring!
The woman who voices Adele is so incredibly boring, I can’t get past chapter 12. The woman who voiced Louise is my all time favourite narrator so it’s unfortunate I won’t be finishing this book.
Another issue, this book skips between timelines a lot. With the boring narrator (Adele) I can barely keep track of what’s going on.

An outlandish story doesn't make it a good one
This book was such a drag, I really regret wasting a credit on this… It was SO slow starting out and I kept waiting for something to captivate my interest but it never happened. Half way through I was just annoyed and wanted it to be over already.
Louise has no redeeming qualities, all her choices just left me annoyed and rolling my eyes. She never learns from anything and keep making the same stupid choices. All of her relationships are odd and seem unusual, I found myself questioning her interactions with her son, when he went on vacation she completely forgot he existed. David has 0 personality, especially for someone who’s supposed to be SO captivating, and Adele was just as bland as Louise.
I did not care for this story at all; the ending did not make this book worthwhile. Everything felt underwhelming until the end, which was unusual and unrealistic.
Obviously, there were people who enjoyed this book, but my advice is to save your credit.

What the heck...
I listen to audible while I'm working or driving to and from work. Let me just say, you need to listen intently in the beginning, or you'll miss stuff in the end and you'll be very confused. The ending was great, until the very last plot twist, and then I was just annoyed. I don't think I would actually recommend this book to anyone.

Mind. Blown.
Insane narrative. It starts like a regular "oops the husband cheated and the wife might find out" plot. But the more you learn about the characters, the more you get invested in the potential deceit behind the innocence. Who can you trust? How does she spy and know literally EVERYTHING? You WILL speed through this novel because you won't be able to stand another moment not knowing what will undoubtedly have to be revealed by the resolution of the book. Think you figured it out? Wait there's more. Oh wait there's more again. And more still. The end will twist your mind. And then again and then again. Like suspense? You will LOVE this book. I was so impressed.

Editor's Pick for a Reason... Mind Blowing!
This book was in my recommendations for months, and I kept bypassing it based on the summary. I didn't want to listen to another marriage gone bad, someone's having an affair, with a slight twist to it. I am so glad it won the editor's choice for psychological thriller or I wouldn't have given it a chance! If it beat Good Daughter by Karin Slaughter, I had to see what it was all about.
And, oh boy, I was not disappointed, it won the pick for a reason. Exceptional characters you both love and hate with a great story intertwined that just blows your mind in the end. I would be absolutely shocked if anyone figured out what was really going on in this one before all is revealed. In fact if they say they did, I would think they were lying!

Best thriller I've read in a long time!
What did you love best about Behind Her Eyes?
This book kept me guessing! Every time I thought I had an idea that I had it figured out, some other twist presented itself and I was sucked in again (trying to figure out the answer)
Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?
The plot did keep me on the edge of my seat and I found myself wanting to read/listen to the book during every spare minute I had!
Have you listened to any of the narrators’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
No. But I liked the narrators very much.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
I don't want to spoil this for anyone who hasn't read it, but YES! I had an extreme reaction during and at the end of the book.
Any additional comments?
Just read the book... don't read anything online about it ... just read it all yourself and WOW!

Don't Waste Your Time
What disappointed you about Behind Her Eyes?
The lead up to the ending was pretty slow. I enjoyed it enough, but mostly I just really couldn't wait to hear the ending that everyone was boasting about. Really disappointing.
What was most disappointing about Sarah Pinborough’s story?
The main character is so frustratingly stupid. I've never actually felt this way about a character before. But she continued to make the same mistakes over and over again and it drove me so crazy by the end. I don't think her actions, by the end, were believable at all. She learned nothing!
Have you listened to any of the narrators’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
I haven't. But I did really like the narrators. I think they gave great performances.
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Behind Her Eyes?
I mean.. I don't presume to think I could make this book better by taking anything out. So nothing. Some people have obviously enjoyed it, so it just wasn't for me I guess.
Any additional comments?
I was trying to come up with the most ridiculous endings in my head the whole time because I wanted to be able to say that I called it. And I did figure out almost everything, and I think most people probably do. But it's true that the final twist got me. I really did have an idea that it would be something like it was, but not exactly. But the major story line completion, the ending of the master plan from the main character was what angered me so much. I guess it was brilliant in some ways, but it wasn't what I wanted to happen as the reader. And the last 2 minutes of the book? Genuinely upsetting on a pretty deep level.
Honestly I've never ever ever ever said anything like this before, but if you're as curious as I was and don't want to be built up for disappointment. Just listen to the last couple chapters.

HATED the ending
I don't want to ruin this book for anyone, but I found the ending to be truly awful. This book was incredibly suspenseful and original in its story line, but I hated they way I felt when it was over. I'm unsettled and not in a good way. I didn't find the end to be clever, but written specifically for shock value. I hated it. I wish I had never spent my time listening to this book. I'm saddened by it.
