Publisher's Summary
Belle Palmer is finally free! Separated from her father on the harrowing escape, Belle is lost and alone until she finds shelter with the Bests, the first free family she's ever known. For the first time in her 16 years, Belle can speak her mind - except for her feelings for a certain dark-eyed young man - The Beau.
Educated and handsome, at 18, Daniel Best is engaged to the prettiest (if a little spoiled) girl around. So when the bedraggled girl his parents take under their wing suddenly turns into a vibrant, lovely young woman, his attraction to her is a complete - and complicated - surprise.
That the two belong together is undeniable, but caught between conscience and attraction, could it possibly happen?

Sweet Story, Weak Narration
This was the book that initially introduced me to Ms. Jenkins so it will forever be a favorite, but once again they chose a poor narrator in my opinion. She was right in line with the Robin Eller the narrator of Ms Jenkins Indigo and Vivid. This narrator brought no life to this book her male character voices were awful and sounded weak. True fans know Ms Jenkins main male roles are strong and powerful with their 6foot plus frames. Please Tantor, Griot, or whoever produces another Beverly Jenkins audio please get Thomas Penny, Kim Staunton or Kevin Free , or at least someone that can bring some real passion to one of Ms J's novels these stories are to delightful to but butchered by poor narrators!

Where is the epilogue
I love the book, so I had to get the Audible version. It is missing the epilogue and the performer sucks at the Male voices.

Beverly Jenkins comes through as always.
A great story mixed with sweet romance and lots of history,. This one is tamer than other novels in the romance department, meant to appeal if I'm not mistaken to the younger readers, but a very good read nonetheless.

Excitement and Enjoyable
I enjoyed listening to this book. The historical perspectives were spot on. It was also sweet enough that my 14 year old could read it as well. Well done.

No One Does It Better!
I am always pleased with these historical novels by Beverly Jenkins. I learn so much and I do not want them to end. I hope we get more from this family.

Sweet
I enjoyed this book it was sweet, but to be honest I was expecting more. It felt like something I would have read in high school. I kept waiting for some big dramatic moment or some intense passion between belle and Daniel that never came, it was just a sweet/cute story. I might gift it to my 14 year old niece its more fitting for her age group.
