Engaging (not too) dark teenage fantasy

I was pulled into this book quickly. While I don’t always, I enjoyed the teenage perspective of this first-person narrative. She was well rounded and multifaceted. Not the stereotypical ‘troubled teen.’

This story got me thinking. I liked how the fantasy elements intermingled with mental health elements. Neal walked that line were reality and fantasy combine masterfully.

I started with this book (not the prequel) and didn’t feel lost ever.

I found the book visually rich and an easy listen; would recommend for both young adults and adults.

Recording quality was professional and narration consistent. I didn’t jive with all the character’s voices, but it didn’t get in the way of me enjoying the story.

If you liked “The Starless Sea” this could be up your alley too.
