Publisher's Summary

The Gateway Project was going to save our world by opening up a doorway to infinite versions of our planet. But the threshold has gone completely out of control, sending all those other Earths onto a collision course with ours. Now, our reality is cracking apart.

Abby Corman did not open the Gateway, but she is the only one who knows how to close it. But an alien Hunter and her pack of deadly hellcats have stepped into our world, and they will stop at nothing to kill Abby. Because in a universe of parallel worlds, one Earth’s savior can be the worst criminal other Earths have ever known.

Bewilderness: What Rough Beast continues the gripping tale of science fiction horror as two women - one human, one alien - battle each other to save infinity.

Great finish!

Finished this free trilogy of novella's by Jonathan Maberry yesterday.

To be frank, I would have liked to have seen it end, and not be set up for future books.

Don't get me wrong, I did enjoy it, I really did, but I had hoped that it would be a stand alone novel.

But that is just me. I realize that I am in the VAST minority when it comes to this.

And don't think for a second that I didn't enjoy it. I loved it!

Still, it is very much worth listening to, and when the sequels (or series) is written I WILL be, without a doubt, reading or listening to them.

As always, Jonathan not only entertained, but created what is going to be a very cool universe for a new series.

"Performer" is awful and distorts a great story.

Great Sci-Fi story but the performer is just AWFUL and falls flat.
The "performer" consistently, speaks in an over exaggerated, back of throat, breathy, slow reading for each character. Like listening to an old 80's anime; but with the same sounding voice for over 4 hours!
Such a shame as Mayberry's book is very interesting.

Breathless Narration is Distracting

The narration really makes it hard to enjoy the story. The breathless narration is annoying. Is she trying to be Marilyn Monroe? The character voices are likewise terrible. The male voices, especially David’s, sound like nasally teens from a Japanese anime translated into English. The ethnic accents are so stereotypical, they’re insulting. She does the voice of a janitor like Fred Sandford or something! There’s no indication anywhere in the story that he’s even Black! As for the story, there was more killing than there was story.

B movie dud

Waited til I finished all 3 installments before judging the overall story and sadly it just wasn't worth it.
I really struggled to finish it, and I'm a big Maberry fan who has enjoyed most of his work. But the cliches wrapped in this creaky, B movie sci fi/horror plot by numbers, from story to anemic vocal performance to the ever obvious "To be continued" ending, were all too uneven, overly predictable & out right corny to be anything but a pale imitation of what a Roger Corman movie by Stephen King would be.
Sadly, the whole thing is a dud.

Some answers, at last

Although the story still has some unresolved situations that will require another book, most of my questions were answered in this one. Abby Corman and the alien hunter finally face off, one with a fire axe and the other with a spear (with some advanced technology). Definitely worth the listen if you have have finished the first two books.
