Publisher's Summary
From best-selling indie author and TikTok favorite Laura Thalassa comes a witch fantasy set in the world of the Bargainer series.
At age 20, Selene Bowers desperately hopes to be accepted into Henbane Coven, an academy for young witches. Since one of the requirements for entry is to connect with her powers via a quest through the wilderness, Selene books a trip to South America. When a nefarious supernatural force tries to drag her plane from the sky, Selene's magic awakens to save her life—at a cost. Using her powers devours her memories, one by one.
Worse, when Selene braves the jungle and discovers the source of the attack, she finds herself awakening an ancient evil, Memnon the Cursed, who mistakes Selene for his long-dead wife. The wife who betrayed him. Selene manages to escape and begin her studies at Henbane, but when Memnon turns up at the coven and witches are found dead across campus, Selene becomes entangled in a dangerous plot. Accused of the murders on the basis of her memory loss, Selene must rely on Memnon's help for answers and his plans for her will change everything.

Witch meets God
I will definitely be reading the other books in this series as it leaves a lot unanswered. I enjoyed the fast pace and strong MC but didn't love the characters. overall enjoyable.

Ehhh had potential
So there are a lot of things in this story that just don’t work.. I had way too many eye roll moments from just ignorance. The plot flow just doesn’t work they way it’s laid out I mean like why in the HELL would she keep the attack on her and the shifter a secret 🤫 let me just be even more stupid and look even more guilty.. I’d like to know what happens but at the same time I’m not sure I could stomach it.. Stella does ok but tries to be waaayyy too breathy for me.. it’s annoying

Another fantastic beginning to a epic series
Laura's writing never ceases to amaze me. She knows how to pull you in and keep you enthralled by her writing. Stella Bloom is a favorite narrator of mine, and she really knows how to bring Laura's writing to life. I will be a forever fan of both their work!
**SPOILER AHEAD**
This is definitely a "the villain gets the girl" book with a cliffhanger. Which is just how i like em'. Memmnon is not a good person, even to Selene at times. But the spice 🌶 is super hot! I can't wait for book 2.

great narrator, subpar story
Laura Thalassa is one of my favorite narrators and I know her writing style. I'm used to her male main characters not being the nicest but this one did not click with me. But as always, Stella Bloom was spectacular

I love her books!
Selene is a witch who suffers memory loss when she uses her magic. This aspect alone grabbed my attention from the get-go. Throw in an interesting familiar, a magical quest and a hot cursed warlord, and I am hooked. Now to wait for the next book! Narration was top notch as well!

Original
I liked the originality of the story. An urban fantasy with a strong FMC who's humorous with the right amount of snarkyness.

compelling premise, meh execution, great smut
I came off of Thalassa's Four Horsemen series looking for something similar. This story doesn't really deliver, and I finished only because I'm a completionist.
The performance got on my nerves because the end of every chapter had the exact same cadence. It was like... "Then.. I.. Ran......" or "It.. Went.. Black......" or "I.. gave.. in....." Which honestly, I think Four Horsemen was also guilty of, and maybe I'm just hearing too much of it in a short time.
I think it's supposed to be suspenseful, but it's often lacking emotion, and it's overused. Though I'm sure she did her best with how it was written.
The smut is great, though. I want what she's having.

can't wait for the next one
I'm always a staunch thalassa fan, and was so excited for a new series. She didn't disappoint! The only thing that threw me was we didn't get to the lovers part in the whole enemies to lovers trope yet.

Is this a spoof
It felt like a spoof of a fantasy romance novel. The worst booktok rec thus far. Tired and repetitive writing. The narrator had me laughing with how dramatic she was with the last line of every chapter. I wish I could get my money back

Such a fun read!
I wasn't sure what to expect here. This was my first book by Laura, and it certainly won't be my last. Lots of witchy goodness! Selene's magic has a cost. Each time she uses it, she loses a memory. She keeps journals to remind her of what's going on in her life and important things. But then she ends up setting Memnon free and her life goes haywire. Some serious hate to love romance keeps you wondering throughout the entire book whether they're actually mated or total enemies. Can't wait to see where the story goes from here!
