Story
From the day that old Nana Reja found a baby abandoned under a bridge, the life of a small Mexican town forever changed. Disfigured and covered in a blanket of bees, little Simonopio is for some locals the stuff of superstition, a child kissed by the devil. But he is welcomed by landowners Francisco and Beatriz Morales, who adopt him and care for him. As he grows up, Simonopio becomes a cause for wonder to the Morales family, because when the uncannily gifted child closes his eyes, he can see what no one else can - visions of all that’s yet to come, both beautiful and dangerous.

Publisher's Summary
Two days before Christmas 1996, the broken, battered body of Sophie Toscan du Plantier was found outside her vacation home in West Cork, a serene region on Ireland’s idyllic southern coast. Decades later, no one has been charged with the murder, but the aggrieved inhabitants of West Cork are convinced they know who did it - and he still lives among them.
In this haunting and heartbreaking true crime series, reporter Sam Bungey and documentarian Jennifer Forde revisit the grisly homicide that left Ireland reeling. Featuring unprecedented research and extensive, exclusive interviews with the case’s key players, their work offers new insight on the still unsolved murder and the labyrinth investigation that followed. The result is an evocative audio portrait as gripping and intriguing as the case it unravels.

Interesting case well told
Excellent performance and good to have all the interviews. The challenge to the reader is that even 20+ years later, the case remains open. So you'll never have a true answer to this "who done it", though they give you lots of material in twists and turns. Very good but not an epic tale.

If you like true crime podcasts- you'll love this
I believe this is the first of it's kind for Audible, and I hope there will be many more. I've listened to thousands of hours true crime podcast, but what I enjoy about this one is that it's also an investigation, not just a retrospective. It unfolds in real time as the journalists dig deeper into the story of this woman's murder.
Why listen to the series? If you enjoy podcasts, or maybe you haven't tried them yet- this is a great example of how the story telling differs from a traditional audiobook. It's a bit more dynamic, a bit more casual-less time spent editing and re-editing. You get to hear witnesses and those who know about the crime first hand, which really makes you feel like you are part of the story. Plus, I love to hear the variety of Irish accents.

Feeling so torn...and sad.
Absolutely DESPERATE to get through it, to see what the story unveiled, when it was all told. It was magnificent! Am utterly captivating series from start to finish! What a story! I listened to it for a FULL DAY!!! Curled up with my 3 wee dogs, wrapped up with a cozy blanket by the roaring fire at home here in Canada... with endless cuppa of tea! Brilliantly laid out series. Well put together. Just utterly captivating. The description made my homesick for Ireland though, despite the actual story itself. I could nearly smell the good Sea Air!!. Well done indeed...
Just sad all around.
A... MUST LISTEN 10+ Stars

The Mystery Remains
For the family of Sophie, I extend heartfelt condolences that this crime has given you no closure. I've listened several hours in and it's left me feeling sorry for Ian. The guards are taking pains to make him fit, because he's the odd man out. I recognize Ian as a man with Asperger's someone who doesn't fit in and in a crowd he dons an 'entertainer' behaviour to deal with the situations. Not fitting in doesn't make him a killer.

Kind of a let down
I enjoyed listening to it but at the end of it, it was kind of a let down and didn't feel like it was worth a credit I used to buy it...
