Publisher's Summary

From Ben Mezrich, the New York Times best-selling author of The Accidental Billionaires and Bringing Down the House, comes Bitcoin Billionaires - the fascinating story of brothers Tyler and Cameron Winklevoss' big bet on cryptocurrency and its dazzling pay-off.

Ben Mezrich's 2009 best seller, The Accidental Billionaires, is the definitive account of Facebook's founding and the basis for the Academy Award-winning film The Social Network. Two of the story's iconic characters are Harvard students Tyler and Cameron Winklevoss: identical twins, Olympic rowers, and foils to Mark Zuckerberg. Bitcoin Billionaires is the story of the brothers’ redemption and revenge in the wake of their epic legal battle with Facebook.

Planning to start careers as venture capitalists, the brothers quickly discover that no one will take their money after their fight with Zuckerberg. While nursing their wounds in Ibiza, they accidentally run into an eccentric character who tells them about a brand-new idea: cryptocurrency. Immersing themselves in what is then an obscure and sometimes sinister world, they begin to realize “crypto” is, in their own words, "either the next big thing or total bulls--t." There’s nothing left to do but make a bet.

From the Silk Road to the halls of the Securities and Exchange Commission, Bitcoin Billionaires will take us on a wild and surprising ride while illuminating a tantalizing economic future. On November 26, 2017, the Winklevoss brothers became the first bitcoin billionaires. Here’s the story of how they got there - as only Ben Mezrich could tell it.

No story arc

I absolutely love all of Ben Mezrich’s books. They all read like movies and have great characters. While I like this book also, it really has no story arc. Not very much happens. It feels like it needs a second and third act.

Misleading Title - Mostly "Winkelvi Memoirs"

Do not buy this if you expect to learn more about Bitcoin or its origin story. The first five hours are almost exclusively focused on the Winkelvoss twins, their family and a corrective account of the Facebook saga. This is very unfortunate, as the author is actually a really good writer.

Interesting read, albeit biased

The extreme bias towards the twins was very apparent and hurts the validity of the story.

Interesting Story, Very Biased Though

You just have to listen to the last chapter to understand the biases of this book. Though a great story worth telling and listening to, the book holds the twins as almost flawless gods.

Poetic justice

While the w twins are unlikely underdogs their story restores our faith in the value of honest hard work and perseverance. Keep on rowing the boat. Zuckerberg on the other hand is selfish and irresponsible and clearly stole the Facebook idea and his irresponsibility has left us with another narcissist trump. The 2 of them are unknowingly facilitating the decline of America.

Bravo!

Fantastic origin story. Reads like a spy novel. Clarifies many misconceptions of bitcoin and explores the engagements in crypto of some very powerful people behind the technology.
