Thoroughly enjoyed!

Not having read any of the reviews for this one, I was pleasantly surprised with it. The plot centers on DI Frank Holmes. He is sent to investigate a young girls murder but ends up getting more than he bargained for. He starts getting visions of a big black dog. At first he writes it off as tiredness but he keeps seeing it and things start happening that leave him in no doubt that he's in danger.

This was a murder mystery with supernatural tendencies and I absolutely loved it!! I always enjoy a flawed protagonist and Frank Holmes was awesome. The story was well written and developed and the pacing was such that I found it hard to put down. I enjoyed reading the myth that is Old Shuch (I'm probably spelling that wrong!!) and enjoyed seeing Holmes go from a skeptic to a believer.

The best thing about this though was the narrator. Aubrey Parsons was absolutely brilliant. He has an astonishing array of voices he does and his tones and cadences brought the book to life. I will definitely check out more of his titles.

Loved it

A grim detective thriller with a supernatural twist
I liked how the author used the black dog myth really adds to the overall suspense
Excellent narration from Aubrey especially as the voice of frank
Likeable characters with a satisfying ending hopefully there’s more to come

Hidden gem

What a wonderful hidden gem. I love the mix of folk lores and procedural mystery. This is my new favorite narrator. His voice was perfect for the back drop of this book

Hope there is a book 2

There are enough reviews about the storyline. Dittos the narrator is great. I agree with the reviewer who said the book would have been even better if there were an epilogue.

A hidden gem of an audiobook

First and foremost, lets get this out of the way. Aubrey Parsons is an amazing Narrator. This guy will be perfect for thriller and mystery novels! My only gripe with this audiobook is that the editing is cut too thin for a good chunk of the book. I would recommend to work on pacing a bit better to reflect the tone of whats going on for the story. Let the listeners digest the more intense moments and don't rush through scenes like its a race. Cut your edits to reflect this and you'll NAIL it!

The story was very well written. Simon Corbin did a great job keeping me interested in the variety of characters introduced in the story. It felt like a good chunk of the characters were fleshed out very well. I won't spoil any of the story at all, but I wished the scenes in the early-to-mid sections of the book had a bit more of a goal for the "Black Dog". It felt like it was a plot device rather than something that had a reason for appearing at those specific times.

In short, this is a great audiobook. I would highly recommend this to anyone!
