About this listen

A week before Lenore Warwick's 21st birthday, she's kidnapped by the brooding and dangerous stranger with cold eyes and a lethal touch, who has been stalking her on San Francisco's fog-shrouded streets. Absolon "Solon" Stavig isn't your average criminal though. He's a centuries-old vampire who's caught between wanting to kill Lenore and wanting to save her.

You see Lenore, too, is a vampire. She just doesn't know it yet.

Taken by a pair of vampire slayers when she was just an infant, Lenore was raised never knowing her true nature. All Lenore knows is that she has (normal) parents who love her, that she's exceptionally smart, and she's squeamish around blood. But once she turns 21, she'll fully turn into a vampire, and Solon hopes he'll be there to guide her, opening her eyes to her deepest hunger...both sexual and otherwise.

But this turning can't be kept a secret. Soon both slayers and vampires are hunting Lenore, with only Solon and his unpredictable motley crew of vampires to save her.

Contains mature themes.

I loved this story! The narrator did a good job as well. Enemies to lovers and the build up is so worth the wait! The chemistry between Lorene and Solon. Wow oh wow!! Do not sleep on this

Loved, loved, LOVED!!!

Narrator was pretty monotone. It was much harder to get into the story because the narratoring was so distracting

Would Probably Be Better With a Different Narrator

I think the concept of this story is good, with intriguing settings and half-decent characters. Despite this, the execution has left me with the impression of reliving someone's wet dream fantasy. I feel like 90% of the book was 'waaaah I've been kidnapped and I'm horny' when there were multiple, and I mean MULTIPLE points where an actual plot-driven story could have occurred and didn't.

This unfortunately, is one of the most frustrating points of this novel as the characters are compelling and the story feels like it's right there to grab but instead has taken a backseat to numerous sex scenes when they could have been riding shotgun, creating a good balance between plot and steamy intimacy. While the intimate scenes were well written enough, I read instead of watching to have some kind of story with my spice- a little more context to invest in, and this unfortunately didn't deliver that and I really wish it did.

Wish there was more to it....

I had a hard time listening to this book. I found the narrator to be monotone, she sounds like she. Is bored reading this book. If you’re looking for hot and steamy look no further. There is a story behind all the 🔥🧯

Hot and steamy

Enemies to lovers. Loved all the main characters. I wish there was more character development on the big bad villains. But overall a great stand alone story.

The narrator sounded like an AI Robot. It was awful. So monotone. I didn’t mind the story, but it was hard to get through.

Terrible narrator

Narration is terrible- very monotone no personality or depth to the characters. Had potential by total fail on character and storyline development

A swing and a miss

The plot had potential but the storyline is so slow. This book has a ton of sex in it but the sex scenes get repetitive. I made it 3/4 of the way through before I gave up to try to find another book.

I’m sure there’s nothing wrong with the narrator but I wasn’t a fan of the overall cadence, tone, etc.

Slow storyline

Karina Halle has written some great books. This is not one of them. Multiple sex scenes do not make up for a lack of character development or a fairly flat plot.

A much more enjoyable read (and reread) is Halfway to the Grave by Frost. This is unbelievably similar in concept, but far off in execution. Newly "turned" human with centuries old mentor, enemies to lovers storyline even down to the British accent.

Okay-ish narration with a could jarring edits.
