Publisher's Summary

"The latest mystery from author David Rosenfelt is a wonderful weave of twists and unpredictability, ably narrated by Fred Berman, whose joy at narration is evident from the beginning." (AudioFile Magazine)

The next exciting installment in best-selling David Rosenfelt's Doug Brock series.

Doug Brock hasn't had it easy since his getting shot in the line of duty as a New Jersey state police officer. Between the amnesia and having to solve two murder cases, it hasn't been the most restful recovery.

Now, the cold-case department is checking evidence from a murder case Doug was investigating before the accident, but the DNA points to a man Doug eliminated as a suspect...and he remembers none of it.

Doug begins to reinvestigate what turns out to be a series of unsolved killings and must retrace his steps to discover why he would have let the suspect go free. What he uncovers may be more dangerous than any case he's faced yet.

With Black and Blue, nationally best-selling author David Rosenfelt continues his thrilling new series featuring Doug Brock.

I wish I could like it

I own all the Andy Carpenter books and I have listened to them each at least 2 or 3 times and I truly love them. It is the characters that I like, more than the story but to create the characters you need the story. I rate them all as 5 star. The reader, Grover Gardner, is the best. I also own 4 non Andy Carpenter, books written by David Rosenfelt. I don't like any of them including this one. It could be the reader, it is hard to say. I really wish I would like these because Andy Carpenter books don't come out that often. I am sure the author wants to write books other than Andy Carpenter and maybe others like them. For, whether it is because of the readers or the characters, I don't know but they don't work for me.

Good everything!

I just finished listening to Black and Blue. This is an awesome 'listen'. The story is a really good puzzle. Had me guessing nearly to the big reveal. Near that, it was, no, it can't be. But it was and I was delighted. Good clues, good red herrings, good story. Just plain good all over. The narrator did a nice job with the story. I appreciate his voice for Nate as opposed to a previous voice used in another of this series.

Waiting for the next episode. Write on, David, write on!

Almost ruined Andy Carpenter

The story is okay . . I have gotten to where I know if anyone is helping out the investigation by being cooperative (both in these books and the Andy Carpenter series). . then they are the bad guy. . .but this narrator almost ruined Andy Carpenter for me for life. He made Andy sound like Marlon Brando from the Godfather. . . I have to get that voice out of my head. Surely MacMillan publishing could have had Grover Gardner read a couple of chapters. Honestly it was not good. And I am not saying the narrator was bad. . it just when you a conceived voice for a character and that voice changes a 180 degrees . you are going to notice. .

When I first started these books I wasn't that impressed. . but they are growing on me. There are a couple of cute scenes with girlfriend.

I'll wait for Andy Carpenter next time.

I LOVE the Andy Carpenter series so I thought I'd try something new by David Rosenfelt while waiting for the next "Andy" to come out. I guess I'm in love with the whole Jersey gang, (including dogs of course)and David's marvelous wit. This book wasn't bad, but the humor fell flat due to the narrator. He was all wrong for this book. I have already listened to every" Andy book" TWICE, so I'll just have to wait for the new one. Love you, Andy!

Not in the Andy Carpenter league

The story lacked something, maybe tried to hard. I never bought the plot. It’s ok but lacks the unique and interesting characters from the “dog “ series.

Definitely not David Rosenfelt's best!!

I'm a huge Devid Rosenfelt fan, having read, or listened to, all but 2 of the Andy Carpenter series. I did not enjoy this story. It bored me! But surpassing that was the narrator's voice. It grated on my nerves, and was just annoying. The character's all sounded pretty much the same, and it was a pittiful attempt to portray females. I love Grover Gardner, but will not listen to anything else by this narrator. You might want to listen to the trailer beforehand, or else avoid the audio version!

He’s no Andy Carpenter

I enjoyed the new characters and the usual banter. Bobo is great but will always love Tara. My only criticism with the narrator is his transition to Andy Carpenter who he makes sound like a bad imitation of Joe Pesci. It’s just not working....

Slow Start!

Surprised at the beginning of how slow it started.. Glad I hung in there.
until the end. Great story.
