About 60% before I gave up

This is probably only the second series or novel I'll never finish.

it has good moments, but it suffers from "if it can go wrong for the protagonist it will every time predictably"

it just got very tiring, add in the predictable dialog

Space Opera at it’s finest

This book is space opera, not science-fiction. If you enjoy a ship that can u-turn in space and maintain its velocity; a space navy that has wormhole jump capability but still uses cannon firing metal shot; technology that works hard to approach 0.1 light speed but just cannot quite seem to move any faster, and; ships with engines that “sputter“ when damaged - then this book is for you. On the other hand, if you demand at least a passing observance of proper physics by an author who builds a credible navy in his story - then put this work back on the shelf and keep looking.

Gripping

I couldn't wait until my next car ride to find out what happened. I dug out headphones to listen to this around the house! loved the character development and the story advancements. Must get series!

Amazing!

Absolutely WONDERFUL! Narration was superb and did a wonderful job defining the characters. Story had twists and turns, somewhat predictable but was overshadowed by all the battles. DEFINITELY pick this one up. On of the best space opera’s I have heard thus far, if not THE best!

Now this is one proper space opera

Large world building, space combat and adventures whilst in port. That's how I like my space opera. The narration really sold the old days of ship sailing feel.

The best Naval Scifi you'll find anywhere.

I loved every moment. Barnes was superb. I'll miss these characters for a long time.

battle details vs characters. characters lost

too much battle action detail not enough character development, so much potential for great characters that was simply not reached. I kept listening as I just Knew it would begin to actually develop.... disappointed.

Exellent story and engaging characters

Very good story containing entertaining characters and story. The pace is satisfying and filled to the brink with both strategy, storytelling and a satisfying sense for detail. Absolutely worth listening to.

Should have known better: A 4-pack for 1 credit?

Very disappointed. I should have known, just by the fact that a 4-pack was sold for 1 credit. Would the first 4 Skippy books ever be offered as a set for 1 credit? The plot is too juvenile, and the narration was annoying, particularly for the lead character. Full disclosure, though - I gave up after 4 hours.
