Story
From Howard Zinn’s A People’s History of the United States to the New York Times' 1619 project, the modern Left views American history through the lens of competing oppressions, replacing the traditional understanding that all Americans are part of a shared journey toward the perfection of universal ideals. Their attacks on the values that built our nation, from the rights to free speech and self-defense to the importance of marriage and faith communities, are insidious because they replace each of them with nothing beyond an increased reliance on the government.

There are certain stories we tell ourselves about the hardships we face - we can become paralyzed by adversity or we can adapt and overcome. We can be fragile or we can find our fortitude. Crenshaw delivers a set of lessons to help you do just that.

Publisher's Summary
New York Times best seller
It’s time for a Black exit. Political activist and social media star Candace Owens addresses the many ways that Democrat Party policies hurt, rather than help, the African American community and why she and many others are turning right.
Black Americans have long been shackled to the Democrats. Seeing no viable alternative, they have watched liberal politicians take the Black vote for granted without pledging anything in return. In Blackout, Owens argues that this automatic allegiance is both illogical and unearned. She contends that the Democrat Party has a long history of racism and exposes the ideals that hinder the Black community’s ability to rise above poverty, live independent and successful lives, and be an active part of the American dream.
Instead, Owens offers up a different ideology by issuing a challenge: It’s time for a major Black exodus. From dependency, from victimhood, from miseducation - and the Democrat Party, which perpetuates all three. Owens explains that government assistance is a double-edged sword, that the left dismisses the faith so important to the Black community, that Democrat permissiveness toward abortion disproportionately affects Black babies, that the #MeToo movement hurts Black men, and much more. Weaving in her personal story, which ushered her from a roach-infested low-income apartment to 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, she demonstrates how she overcame her setbacks and challenges despite the cultural expectation that she should embrace a victim mentality.
Well-researched and intelligently argued, Blackout lays bare the myth that all Black people should vote Democrat - and shows why turning to the right will leave them happier, more successful, and more self-sufficient.

This book has so much wisdom and intelligence throughout the pages. I completely enjoyed the Audible so much so that I have ordered the hard copy to have in my library. too many stories for one book
I found it difficult, as much as I respect the author, to keep my attention to all the back stories and political histories. I already know her positions on most issues but when it came time to dig deeper into discussions of her reasons I just couldn't stay focused. I hope she'll stay involved in republican politics but she should wait until trump is out of the picture before she goes after the next president. and she should definitely hold public office before she even talks about a presidential run

Thought provoking!
I love this book. As a black women and conservative, I find this audiobook highly fascinating, thought provoking & meticulously well spoken. Far too often black women voters are a forgone conclusion. When ladies, such as Candace and myself speak out about these issues, we are suppressed, bullied and threatened. It is time that more black women garner the courage to speak out and demand that our needs are met both interracially and intraracially.

History: 1 star
I wonder how many black people actually digested the literary contents of this book. Owens offers black America nothing different than those she hates. Also I’m not surprised she wrote about untraceable claims (rumors) regarding LBJ’s private conversations...will she do that with Trump? Congrats to Candace who left her parents’ rat infested apartment to live with her grandparents who gave her everything her parent’s could not. Breaking a bad cycle is always good. However I don’t believe her parents inability to properly care for her is the byproduct of Democratic policies; it was their lack of personal will. Good parents set their children up for a good life. Candace’s grandparents saw what became of their child and they wanted better for their grandchildren. The author knows going to live with her grandparents changed the trajectory of her life outcome. TO NON-BLACK PEOPLE— there is a way to spread the message of conservatism without looking like a racist bigot, who enjoys dehumanizing black people who exercise their right to vote, yelling “Democratic plantation.” I thought ‘no one alive today was born a slave?’ Lastly, I suggest everyone read an African American studies book by someone who finished college. Where Do We Go From Here: Chaos or Community by MLK Jr is a great start. He warned about people like Candace Owens...

I have often asked myself, why people vote for the “liberal” candidates, it’s way more sinister than I realized!!
Reading the facts uncovered and shoved into the light. No double talk... Cold. Hard. Math. The level of insincerity rolling off most politicians is enough to make me sick, hearing the numbers and outcomes their lies produce, breaks my heart. Ms. Owens has written a beautiful, wrenching, history/retrospective of exactly what has happened to our tax dollars over the last 60 years. I’m ready to start a go fund me page so I can buy a copy of this book for every black citizen in my congressional district. My friends have heard plenty of lies... they need the truth. What the Democrats have done should be punishable under the law.
