Publisher's Summary

From the internationally acclaimed author of the Harry Hole novels - a fast, tight, darkly lyrical stand-alone novel that has at its center the perfectly sympathetic antihero: an Oslo contract killer who draws us into an unexpected meditation on death and love.

This is the story of Olav: an extremely talented "fixer" for one of Oslo's most powerful crime bosses. But Olav is also an unusually complicated fixer. He has a capacity for love that is as far-reaching as is his gift for murder. He is our straightforward, calm-in-the-face-of-crisis narrator with a storyteller's hypnotic knack for fantasy. He has an "innate talent for subordination" but running through his veins is a "virus" born of the power over life and death. And while his latest job puts him at the pinnacle of his trade, it may be mutating into his greatest mistake...

What a horrendous choice of narrator!!!!!

I am a HUGE Nesbo fan! I have listened to all of his novels on Audible, some more than once. When I saw this new arrival, I jumped right on it. I was immediately let down by the choice of narrator. I don't know if this is the narrator's real voice or if she is doing it on purpose, but everything about it is just bad. She cannot say any of the foreign names or places and her voice NEVER changes. Every character sound identical. She also seems to want us to think that the main character has an IQ of 4. He mentions that he is not the smartest person, but he isn't an imbecile! I can't believe that someone thought that this was a good idea.

As far as the story goes...I thought that it was very good. Be warned, this is a short read. The story has a few nice twists that are classic Nesbo. Because it is so short, unfortunately, the twists are not that difficult to figure out. I really enjoyed the story but I wanted to punch whoever chose the narrator in the teeth. Had this been read by John Lee, it would have been stellar...Short, Sweet, Nesbo.

A long short story

I love Jo Nesbo. I didn't love Blood on Snow (although I have to admit I LOVED the ending). Overall, the story lacked the depth and hyper-reality of most Nesbo novels (not surprisingly, it is quite short). And the narrator!!!! Never mind the monotone read (it sometimes works with Nesbo's cadence and darkness)... I could not understand why the producers of this audio book chose a female reader for a book that's told in the first person of a male character. Dumb choice.

What a drone.

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

I would recommend it to be read not to be listened.

How could the performance have been better?

If it would have been read by anyone else but Patti Smith. What a drone. I spent so much time getting past her voice I don't know what the connecting parts to the end of the story were.

Did Blood on Snow: A novel inspire you to do anything?

Consider buying it in print. The narration is a distraction from the story. I kept with the book because I felt the monotone narration might have something to do with the character.

Ughhhhhhh!

After an hour of listening, I just do not have the willpower to finish the audio version of the book. The monotone narration is awful. Instead, I will buy the Kindle version of the book and finish it.

Unbelievably bad novel.

Don't waste your time or money. One of the worst female narrators ever. Entire story is told through the male's point of view; having a female reader is distracting and senseless.

Story was good but the narration let it down

What did you like best about Blood on Snow: A novel? What did you like least?

Jo Nesbo is a good story teller - not his best but fun

What didn’t you like about Patti Smith’s performance?

I'm afraid I didn't like the performance at all. Very monotone. It's a shame because I felt that the story was OK, but the performance just wasn't for me

Did Blood on Snow: A novel inspire you to do anything?

I would be interested in future novels, but I wouldn't want to listen to Patti Smith reading again.

Any additional comments?

I felt that the novel was let down by the narration - maybe for others it will better.

Terrible narration

I couldn't get past the second chapter due to the narration. I realize the narrator is a legend; however, her voice and style are a poor fit for this audiobook.

Love!

Hated the narrator's voice but love jo Nesbo and the story. I've read all his books and have been pleasantly surprised by his stand alone a and Harry Hole series alike.

What the what?

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

You might enjoy the reading of this book if you drunk. I am a Nesbo fan, and would like to read this book, but listening to it was awful!!!! who thought that Patti's reading of this book conveys anything other than a drug addled slump into sleepy time? I want my money back.

What didn’t you like about Patti Smith’s performance?

Nothing, some of the worst reading I have ever heard.

zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz BORING STORY...

Would you try another book from Jo Nesbo and Neil Smith - Translator and/or Patti Smith?

...and, even more boring narration. Good lord...whoever chose her to narrate this book? It was ok listening to her tell her own story of the book she wrote but she has about THE most boring monotone voice of any narrator I've ever listened to. I'm halfway through the story and simply can't go on. I have no idea where the author is going with this and don't plan on trying to find out. Returning at once!
