Publisher's Summary
In a world where vampires have conquered mankind, Turner West is the only thing they fear.
Threaded with silver through his body, he is a Bonemaker - a rare human who can Unmake vampires with a single cut of his blade. Crossing the prairie of what was once the United States, Turner will face a blood-crazed cult, a governor who wants power more than life itself, and a trio of beautiful women who will help him toward his ultimate goal: ridding the world of bloodsuckers.
There's just one problem. Turner's exploits have attracted a vampire so old, his very existence threatens what remains of the human race. Extinction is upon us.

Exceedingly Silly- but Somehow Satisfying
You definitely have to set aside logic to enjoy 'Bloodlands', but if you can manage it, you are rewarded with a breakneck-paced adventure built on a reasonably original premise: a post-apocalyptic world - essentially a reinstated Wild West - populated by Vampires, cowering human remnants, wandering gangs of marauders, and rare individuals (Bonemakers) that are able to use Silver-suffused physiology to "unmake" the undead. Yes, it's ludicrous.. but Daniel Pierce is quite good at providing enough rollercoaster-ride action to prevent the reader/listener from ruminating on the stoopid.
Charges of oversexing the story are legit - Pierce takes perverse pleasure in the gratuitous sex & gore elements of his narrative (and be aware if you're thinking of listening around kids: it gets awfully explicit) - but for the most part, I didn't find them overpowering.
Also in the audiobook's favor: the performance is outstanding. Podium Audio engineers adhere to impressive quality standards (with flawless volume modulation & splicing, for example), and J.F. Harding reads with remarkable diction, timbre, cadence, and tone.. and exemplary voice-acting. Despite often cartoonish dialogue - from frightened/aggressive/horny females to religious zealots to vicious undead - Harding provides mind's-eye realistic exchanges while managing not to go overboard. I will definitely look out for more from a professional like Mr. Harding in future.
This audiobook is definitely imperfect, but the performance is so good, I still rate it 5.5 stars out of 10. I am grateful to Audible for offering it as a 'Plus' option - because the ridiculous story (full of plot holes a mile wide) is actually worth a Credit if they ask for it. On to the sequel..

Fantastic BUT the sex scenes were unnecessary
Fantastic book! Would've gotten a full 5 stars for everything had they left the tacky unnecessary sex scenes out. I enjoyed the story and can't wait to listen to the 2nd book.
