Publisher's Summary

A new thriller based on the true story of LA’s first known serial killer.

In 1919, Kathryn Wombacher finds a lonely-hearts ad placed by one Walter Andrew:

"Would be pleased to correspond with a refined young lady or widow. Object, matrimony.”

Kathryn and Walter fall in love and marry within weeks.

What Kathryn doesn’t know...is that her new husband is really James “Bluebeard” Watson, a notorious West Coast serial killer who catfished and married 22 women, murdering 10.

Based on newly unearthed evidence, Bluebeard is the definitive story of a sociopath who wielded love as a deadly weapon.

And it’s the story of a woman who discovered the unthinkable about her husband...and dared to fight back.

A great Listen

I loved this true crime story and the way it was presented, like a play, rather then with a single narrator.
I listened to it in one satisfying bite.

Well done

An interesting performance that outlined the inner workings of a psychopath and the plight of women only 100 years ago. Definitely would recommend a listen!

Great Storytelling

Great storytelling but it felt more like it was from 1990s than 1919s. She is a strong woman but the way she spoke and acted at times felt like she was from more modern times. Hopefully, women like her existed back then and that my preconceived ideas are wrong about women in 1919s.

Interesting

The fact that this was based on real people had me curious the entire time. The story is just bananas, that this guy was able to get away with this. Fascinating.

Well done!

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I wondered how closely it related to the actual true story as I found it shocking how techniques used by men in current society to doup women either in scams or to carry on multiple families were used. Thankfully the methods were sensational additions, likely taken from current events. It would have been sad if 100 years later women were still falling for the same lies and not suspecting a thing!

I wish more short books were written and dramatized like this one based on true crime.

Really loved the Format!

This was really well done, and true crime is always interesting. Loved that it wasn’t terribly long, but not rushed. The music the dialect - so perfectly suited for the era - well acted! Made gardening especially engaging and even caught me off guard a few times. The neighbours must think I’m crazy when I gasp or react aloud as I’m raking weeds and planting bulbs hahah.
