A Uniquely American WW2 Insight

My favorite element of the book was how we get a glimpse of the American at the beginning of the war, as opposed to the many WW2 texts that exist with the knowledge of how the war ends.

After reading all previous Steinbeck titles before this one its interesting how his voice and sense of narrative structure has developed. Though he seems to needlessly repeat himself, the 1942 American audience he was writing too might have benefited from this if they only read the chapters that pertained to them.

Lastly, the narrator does a fantastic job and I believe really understand the tone Steinbeck used in this book.

If you want to learn a little about Steinbeck, a little about WW2 and a little about America, then I highly recommend this book.
