About this listen

Best friends. Literary soulmates. Will they find a happily ever after together?

Librarian Bennet Webb’s dream trip to Bath was supposed to be perfect, a literary pilgrimage to honor Jane Austen’s 250th birthday, topped off with a proposal from her longtime boyfriend. Instead, Bennet finds herself alone in the city of her dreams. That is until she meets an unexpected companion who changes everything for the better.

Alice Higgins is a waitress by day, aspiring novelist by night, and sworn enemy of all things Austen. But when a flustered yet adorable American tourist stumbles into the restaurant where she works, Alice is surprisingly willing to reconsider her views.

Soon the pair strike up a transatlantic book swap. Alice will read Bennet’s beloved classics, and Bennet will try Alice’s contemporary picks. What begins as a literary experiment turns into a connection that deepens with every second. Could the love stories they share lead to a happily ever after they never expected?

Don’t miss this heartwarming, slow-burn, cozy, friends to lovers romance about bad timing, good books, and the courage to choose the plot twist you never saw coming.

The rest of the sapphic romances I read this year are going to have a lot of work to do if they want to stand alongside this read. I absolutely adore this book. The dialogue is witty and natural, and the narration performed with so much personality that it's left me in a happy post-book haze.

Both narrators did a great job, but the American actor really stood out to me with such a natural performance - I could easily picture Bennet as one of my friends! Of course, that's great dialogue, too, but I can visualize the way Bennet's face cringes when she says something she's hesitamt to admit, or see the smirk or eye roll when she makes a quick sassy remark under her breath. I really enjoyed the way the narrators would interrupt each other when it happened in the dialogue, and the chemistry was great.

I love how cozy this romance is. An aspiring author and a librarian, both avid readers of different types of fiction, meet by chance, become best friends, and eventually realize they're in love with each other. It's so cute and sweet, and the way these two women care for each other is so healthy and healing. A lot of domestic goodness to be found here.

Wonderfully cozy and great narration!

Okay, the slow burn had me silently yelling at both characters, however it was worth the wait. It warmed my heart how romantic and deeply loving their relationship was. The narration by Lori and Marisa, is next level. I was wrapped up in their love as well. I did slow the audio down to 80x and it soothed all the parts of my soul.

Now I need to relive Jane Austin
