À propos de cet audio
Ce que les critiques en disent
“[Book of Longing] is not so much an illustrated collection of poems as it is a shaped autobiography.” —Globe and Mail
“It reaffirms Cohen’s mastery in the domain of desire, and devotees will not be disappointed.” —Austin Chronicle
“Tenderness may have replaced passion, but Cohen’s ability to capture this shift makes it poignant and meaningful. . . . Cohen has taken what his friend Irving Layton called ‘the inescapable lousiness of growing old’ and has given it, in its waning days, a profound romantic dignity.” —Gazette (Montreal)
“He’s shown an uncanny knack for expressing the changing Zeitgeist.” —Toronto Star

Want to find one of your favourite poems of Cohen’s that you KNOW is in “Book of Longing”? Too bad! You’ll have to guess which one it is amongst the 187 poems—divided here into chapters with no other info whatsoever. “Oh, thanks, Audible! I’ll just go get the hardcover version I have on the shelf which has the titles of the poems. How convenient!”
Cohen’s performance is, of course, perfect, featuring great close-mic’ed recordings of his croaky baritone of his later years.
Audible doesn’t care
