Story
Founded in London in 1717 as a way of binding men in fellowship, Freemasonry proved so addictive that within two decades it had spread across the globe. Masonic influence became pervasive. Under George Washington, the Craft became a creed for the new American nation. Masonic networks held the British empire together. Under Napoleon, the Craft became a tool of authoritarianism and then a cover for revolutionary conspiracy. Both the Mormon Church and the Sicilian mafia owe their origins to Freemasonry.

Story
First published from 1872 to 1969, Morals and Dogma is one of the most insightful works ever prepared for Freemasonry. It is a collection of 32 essays which provide a rationale for the Scottish Rite degrees. It encompasses a study of Freemasonry, wise philosophy, ancient mysteries, mythology, ritual, and religion. It serves the useful purpose of putting Masonic morality and ethics within the context of the general society, and bids man to think large - to cast aside the petty concerns of everyday life and to improve ourselves.

Story
Freemasonry, though not a religion, is essentially religious. Most of its legends and allegories are of a sacred nature; much of it is woven into the structure of Christianity. We have learned to consider our own religion as the only inspired one, and this probably accounts for much of the misunderstanding in the world today concerning the place occupied by Freemasonry in the spiritual ethics of our race. A religion is a divinely inspired code of morals. A religious person is one inspired to nobler living by this code. He is identified by the code, which is his source of illumination.

Publisher's Summary
Its mysterious symbols and rituals had been used in secret for centuries before Freemasonry revealed itself in London in 1717. Once known, Freemasonry spread throughout the world and attracted kings, emperors, and statesmen to take its sacred oaths. But where had this powerful organization come from? What was it doing in those secret centuries before it rose from underground more than 270 years ago? And why was Freemasonry attacked with such intense hatred by the Roman Catholic church?
This amazing detective story answers those questions and proves that the Knights Templar in Britain, fleeing arrest and torture by pope and king, formed a secret society of mutual protection that came to be called Freemasonry. Based on years of meticulous research, this book solves the last remaining mysteries of the Masons - their secret words, symbols, and allegories whose true meanings had been lost in antiquity. With a richly drawn background of the bloody battles, the opportunistic kings and scheming popes, the tortures and religious persecution throughout the Middle Ages, it is an important book that may require that we take a new look at the history of events leading to the Protestant Reformation.

Compelling case presented
The author fleshes out a rich history of events in Europe finding interesting connections between the Knights Templars and circumstances that took place in England’s peasant revolts. There is a depth to the research and presentation of this material that makes this book well worth reading. Thank you Mr. Robinson for your insights and efforts.

inesperado

Interesting but not by a Freemason it seems.
The book was quite intriguing and eye opening but it is my understanding that this was not written by a Freemason so I have to question a lot of the validity (Without confirmation from one). It also has quite a bit of information that I have heard contradictory accounts of in the past that have been claimed to be fact and are taken as such so I wish this book gave more sources/references to confirm what is written. If it could all be proven I would give it 5 stars across the board, And I would love to see it turn into a series with even more information particularly of say the last few hundred years.

Great Book
Good book with lots of actual historical documented facts. Not a book that tries to prove an extra-factual point and sift through the "facts" to only include the ones that back up the authors beliefs.

Tons of medieval religious history and the author makes a great case for Masonry being rooted Templar rather that stone cutting guilds
