Story
Dylan is my best friend, and the only person in my life who understands me. He doesn’t mind my social awkwardness or my weird history. The only glitch? He doesn’t know that I’m hopelessly, desperately in love with him. But I know better than to confess. Now that we’re both in college together, I’m seeing a new side of him. College Dylan drinks and has a lot of sex. None of it with me. Until the night I foolishly ask him to tutor me in more than algebra...and he actually says yes. But the cool morning light shows me how badly I’ve endangered our friendship.

The first time I meet Rickie, I don’t know what to make of him. The second time we meet, he doesn’t remember the six hours we spent together. Or standing me up afterward. I’m not the same, either. I’ve got secrets. I’ve told lies. Bad boys aren’t my type, anyway. Even the ones with troubled gray eyes. But now we’re roommates. Cue the awkward moments in the hallway when he’s wearing only a towel and a smile. He’s determined to win me over, and his talented hands weaken my resolve.

You'd think a billion dollars, a professional hockey team and a six-bedroom mansion on the Promenade would satisfy a guy. You'd be wrong. For seven years Rebecca has brightened my office with her wit and her smile. She manages both my hockey team and my sanity. I don't know when I started waking in the night, craving her. After I’m arrested for throwing a raucous party, my hockey team says I have an image problem. And I need to fix it, stat. Charity work? Check. Haircut? Sure. But I draw the line at hiring my neighbor to style me. In the first place “style” shouldn’t be a verb. And I’m tired of people who’d judge me on appearances. Vera and I don’t see eye to eye on anything. She wants me to try on clothes, while I just want to remove hers. She's distractingly pretty, with soulful eyes and a sinful mouth that likes to argue with me.

Publisher's Summary
No last names. No life stories. Those were the rules.
Once upon a time a cocky, copper-haired tourist sauntered into Zara's bar. And even though she knew better, Zara indulged in a cure for the small-town blues. It was supposed to be an uncomplicated fling - a few sizzling weeks before he went back to his life, and she moved on. Until an accidental pregnancy changed her life.
Two years later, she's made peace with the notion that Dave No-Last-Name will never be found - until one summer day when he walks into her coffee shop, leveling her with the same hot smile that always renders her defenseless.
Dave Beringer has never forgotten the intense month he spent with prickly Zara. Their nights together were the first true intimacy he'd ever experienced. But the discovery of his child is the shock of a lifetime, and his ugly past puts relationships and family out of reach.
Or does it? Vermont's countryside has a way of nurturing even tortured souls. The fields and the orchards - and hard-won love - are bountiful.

Beautiful!
Zara & Dave
There are some series you are just invested in and this is one of those series for me. I love everything about it.
The small town feels, to the character’s in it. I am in love with it.
We meet Zara pretty early on in the series and you are intrigued by her and her story. I love how this story gives us the before, the meeting of Dave the hot hot, hot, f -buddy relationship to the now.
It really helps us to see the progression of the book but also the growth of both characters. This book unfolded so naturally there wasn’t any over drama which I loved. It wasn’t predictable either, and that was refreshing.
Lovvvved the narration it was exactly what this book needed. Teddy :)

I loved this book and stayed up all night to finish it. Sarina Bowen is a must buy author for me! This series has been great from book 1 but this one was my favorite I think. I loved the characters, they were both so good and normal, like they could be your friends. Dave and Zara are incredibly HOT together and they have a great connection. I loved them together from chapter 1. They have such amazing chemistry that you can't help but fall for their love story. I have a huge soft spot for Men with children in my books. This book was sweet, sexy, realistic and my favorite... Not overly dramatic!!!! I also love that all of these series are entwining but even if you don't remember the other books this could have been a stand alone.
The narration was great! Teddy Hamilton was the PERFECT choice for Dave. He really brought Dave to life for me! Seraphine Valentine was also very good, not sure if I have ever heard her before but I would absolutely buy another audiobook if she was narrating!

The True North Series has been such an emotional, inspiring and sexy journey with a lot of very entertaining and interesting characters. Although the characters do show up from book to book, they do truly stand alone.
Although this book had not a great deal of action and goings on, i still couldn’t turn it off. It had my attention through and through. The characters were endearing, their chemistry palpable and the storyline was so sweet. I really, truly loved it.

My Favorite True North Book!
I. Love. Zara!
This is my favorite True North book and my favorite Sarina Bowen book as well (though Keepsake is a close second)! There is so much to love about this story: the strong main characters, the steamy parts, and the emotional arch for Zara and Dave.
I won't summarize too much of the story here, you can read other reviews for that. Can I just say how much I love that Zara is a total bad ass but she also loves a bossy guy in bed? Those things aren't mutually exclusive. I'm new to the romance genre, so perhaps all male characters are bossy and take control, and Sarina Bowen does seem to lean that way with many of the heroes of her books. It would be annoying if Zara was meek and didn't have a life of her own, but she does and she knows what she likes in bed. This book connects with the other books in the True North series as well as the Brooklyn Bruisers books. I love that we meet Bess Barringer, whose story I already read (Sure Shot, definitely check it out). I also love that Zara's career and life are in Vermont and so that means she's not the one that has to make big choices about whether or not to sacrifice something.
Bowen wastes no time getting to the sexy stuff here too, so if that's your jam you won't be disappointed.
I will say it's a little annoying that Zara's brothers are super mad at Dave for not being there for Nicole's first year or so. He literally didn't know she existed so how could he have been there? It's an old kind of sexism that just irks me, but I don't expect too much in the way of overt feminism from these kinds of books.

I have really enjoyed this series for many reasons
I stumbled on this author's publications recently and have loved every book in this series. In the past, I only had time to read nonfiction. Now that I am retired due to a disability, I have been surprised to find I am addicted to romance novels as a way to distract myself from chronic pain. Beside the guarentee of a HEA, it is a rare book that gets me laughing out loud wherever I happen to be like this book did. Added to the humor, there is the well thought out flow to the tale and multifaceted character development that creates investment in the story. Then there is the perceptive approach by the author to deal with serious subjects such as the effects of poverty, physical abuse, drug abuse etc. In addition, the writer has a very sex-positive approach and did not shy away from a pet peeve of mine. With the trend of the mistake of going bareback and now that AIDS is no longer a definite death sentence, there has been an increase of certain STD's. When I taught birth control classes, I found that many people had a cavalier attitude that if contracted, the disease is quickly solved by taking an antibiotic. While that is the usual sequale in most cases if caught early, there are exceptions which I neither have the time or space to address. I would advise every sexually active individual to educate themselves. When a writer exhibits the social consciousness to responsibly introduce the subject of condoms in their work, they should get kudos for their service. If I were a writer, this is what writing would be about to me.
There are two minor issues which snagged my attention. The man exhibited on the cover (while very handsome) is not a ginger as described in the novel. As a very visual person, I get an image in my head when I look even briefly at the cover and then find it distracting to have to dismantle and rebuild that image when it differs in the book. I know this is a big deal but still... The other issue revolves around how to rewarm refrigerated breast milk. As a retired Nurse Practitioner with a Master's degree in the Perinatal area and approximately 20 years experience in Neonatal ICU, it is recommended that breast milk not be microwaved. Actually, I haven't seen milk microwaved in any unit I worked in since the early 80's. As a Nurse Manager and Educator in a any new unit, I always had microwaves removed because of several safety precautions. The author does a great job addressing the problem of "hot spots" but the medical studies still are inconclusive on other questions regarding proteins, vitamins, and enzymatic, antioxidant, antibiotic and antibacterial properties. Currently, the FDA recommends warming on the stove or, my favorite, just warm under hot running water constantly rotating the bottle or just setting it in a bowl of warm water. When I would hear my kids start to wake at home, I would plop the bottle (if not breast feeding for some reason) in a bowl of warm water and by the time I had my baby up and diaper changed, it would be ready. If the milk is frozen, it takes a little longer. However, it only takes a few minutes and until conclusive studies are done, it doesn't hurt to err on the side of safety IMO.
In conclusion, I thought the narrators did a good job as well!

Great read
I really enjoyed this story! The characters were fun and I adored watching Dave and Zara overcome the obstacles in front of them. Their past history with their fathers has a huge effect in this story and between them as it has given them trust issues and ideas about what life holds in store for them. Little Nicole is a huge part of giving Dave a wake up call and I loved his interactions with her, even though he panicked initially. This story was really cute and I really enjoyed reading it.
The narrator did a great job with the personalities and bringing the story to life with that extra dynamic that listening gives.
