Publisher's Summary

A sex and relationship columnist bares it all in a series of essays—part memoir, part manifesto—that explore the author’s coming of age and coming out as a bisexual man and move toward embracing and celebrating sex unencumbered by shame.

As a boy, Zachary Zane sensed that all was not right when images of his therapist naked popped into his head. He sometimes imagined other people naked, too, and without an explanation as to why, a deep sense of shame pervaded these thoughts. Though his therapist assured him a little imagination was nothing to be ashamed of, over the years, society told him otherwise.

Boyslut is a memoir-manifesto in which Zane articulates that, even today, we live in a world that shames people for the sex that they have and the sexualities that they inhabit. Through the lens of his bisexuality and much self-described sluttiness, Zane breaks down exactly how this sexual shame negatively impacts the sex and relationships in our lives and, through personal experience, shares how we can unlearn the harmful, entrenched messages that society imparts to us.

From stories of play sessions with a neighbor at age six to the first explorations of Zane’s bisexuality in college, as well as sex parties, orgies, and fun with butt plugs, Boyslut is reassuring and often painfully funny—and most potently, it is a testimony that we can all learn to live healthier lives unburdened by stigma.

Boy Slut ? Sign me up

Zachary Zane stands up and breathes life into the sex positive world I want to live in with a hilarious potty mouth along the way . It made me look into areas of my life and sex life that I feel shame that I never really acknowledged as unproductive before , and now feel excited to be the boy slut I always secretly dreamed of . It’s a must read !

Love the love

I love all the different perspectives and views. How open and blunt but funny he was. His narration was great as well. He should be an audio actor.

no words

amazing, amazing, amazing! it’s abrasive and crude in the best way possible. first, i love when authors perform their own works, it gives the story a wonderfully personal dimension. it talks openly and humorously about taboo subjects and the way Zach writes makes it seem as if they were never taboo in the first place! i think this book is a huge step forward in sexual, queer, and poly representation. as a bisexual woman in a straight passing relationship, i want to be a boyslut!

A rare voice and POV with the Queer Community

Zane, brings a much under represented perspective as a bisexual man. An illuminating, witty, queer, sexy and joyous memoir/manifesto that should be required reading for all queer men.

Thank you!

Wow, I had no idea how much I needed to hear this memoir. Thank you to audible & Zachary Zane, for giving a free listen to audible plus members, for this short window, I’m not sure if it would have crossed my path otherwise. I’m not certain how it actually did, but I was meant to hear it!! My library app was glitching & thus went to audible, noticing the freebie was going to expire soon! This book validates so much of my feelings, my fears, my mental health, my truths. For reference I am a cis woman and though my sexual orientation should have no bearing, it certainly seems to in every single aspect of life sadly.. I grew up thinking being born female, in the millennial era, every other “female” was bi and so, instead of saying so because it seemed to be a fad, I went in the other direction and just thought I was abnormal on the inside… which caused so so so much internal obsession and turmoil! This is why sex ed is necessary! This is why EVERY aspect of the rainbow needs to be discussed. It is not only about literal S E X, it is about the right to freedom of knowledge and a sense of belonging which young brains long for so desperately… it’s about body dysmorphia, eating disorders, suicide, about mental health for the youth, the vulnerable. Not talking or learning about it, doesn’t mean your kids will not “become gay” or not have sex, they’ll just be mentally ill equipped to face life.

Not my favourite

This had some good parts, but also some parts that rubbed me the wrong way. Ie: how he approaches spreading STIs, and how if you're mentally ill you shouldn't bum your loved ones out with your problems.
