Publisher's Summary

Dr. David Perlmutter, number-one New York Times best-selling author of Grain Brain, and Dr. Austin Perlmutter, his son, explore how modern culture threatens to rewire our brains and damage our health, offering a practical plan for healing.

Contemporary life provides us with infinite opportunities, along with endless temptations. We can eat whatever we want, whenever we want. We can immerse ourselves in the vast, enticing world of digital media. We can buy goods and services for rapid delivery with our fingertips or voice commands. But living in this 24/7 hyper-reality poses serious risks to our physical and mental states, our connections to others, and even to the world at large.

Brain Wash builds from a simple premise: Our brains are being gravely manipulated, resulting in behaviors that leave us more lonely, anxious, depressed, distrustful, illness-prone, and overweight than ever before.

Based on the latest science, the book identifies the mental hijacking that undermines each and every one of us, and presents the tools necessary to think more clearly, make better decisions, strengthen bonds with others, and develop healthier habits. Featuring a 10-day bootcamp program, including a meal plan and 40 delicious original recipes, Brain Wash is the key to cultivating a more purposeful and fulfilling life.

What the critics say

"Inflammation, enhanced by so many influences of our modern world, dramatically reduces our ability to make good decisions and feel content. Brain Wash not only explores how this is happening, on a global scale, but also shows what we can do right now to take back control. From spending time in nature to choosing to consume one plant-based meal a day, Brain Wash provides the tools the reclaim and rebuild your brain's ability to make better choices and allow health and happiness to flourish." (Mark Hyman, MD, number-one New York Times best-selling author of Food and director of the Cleveland Clinic Center for Functional Medicine)

"Brain Wash reveals how our day-to-day decisions are deeply influenced and actively manipulated by the modern world. But more importantly, it is a powerful manual that allows each of us to reclaim control of our choices and make better decisions that will pave the way for health and happiness. While we generally know what's best for ourselves, acting on this knowledge is a constant struggle. Brain Wash allows us to turn this knowledge into action. I highly recommend this innovative book." (Daniel G. Amen, MD, founder, Amen Clinics and author of The End of Mental Illness

"Brain Wash shows us how our ability to make the best decisions is literally being hijacked every day. But more importantly, Drs. David and Austin Perlmutter empower the reader with the tools to regain control over our decision-making and implement strategies to allow health, empathy and happiness to manifest. Brain Wash brings a healthy dose of compassion to the world." (Dr. Josh Axe, best-selling author of Keto Diet)

Just another vegan agenda.. Beware of brainwashed.

Appalling misinformation on diet and nutrition. Used to be a fan of the grain brain series... But gone very far off the rails... This book will be a Beware NO Go for my patients. Makes me ashamed for my profession

Poor performance and poor writing.

This book does not look up to the quality of David Perlmutter’s work. This seems very fluffy. And the narrator overenunciate it so much that it really sounded like he was more interested in hearing his voice then getting wrapped up in the story and telling us what the book said.

Wrong person to read this book

This book is not read by the author and it should be!!!! I could not get past the first chapter because of the voice reading this book is a horrible match. The voice is for a fictional story not a nonfiction. I want my money back! I love Dr. Perlmutter but the audio version with Peter Ganim’s voice is horrible!

Excellent Book - TERRIBLE Narrator

The. narration is a joke but the book is incredible. I ended up buying a physical copy. I do not recommend the Audible version — the blandness of the narrator's voice doesn't transmit the impact of the text at all. 10/10 book but a 3/10 narrator.

Very Basic

This book provides the most basic of information regarding health. Eat organic/ mostly plants, sleep well, meditate, exercise and have a strong, loving social network. Omega 3 supplements can help. There. No need to buy this.

Tired material and political undertones.. bleh.

Anyone who reads this type of material already has read this recycled mincemeat (uh tempeh.) over and over..apparently you’re medium rare steak is impairing your appreciation for “diversity” and keeping you locked into your Neanderthal need to watch NFL and have sex with beautiful people. God I love steak.

Amazing

this has been an excellent listening. I am ordering the hard copy so I can reference back. I am so ready to wash my brain. The information was well written and easy to understand. I already suffer with brain fog and minor memory issues and been tested with results are normal. So something is going on that is not detected as of yet but I feel the desire to take action before it gets worse. I am a nurse and responsible for so many people in the long term care industry, so taking care of myself is essential. I thank the writers the readers and production of this book.

Bad narrator

I could not finish listening to this book so I have to say my review is limited. The narrator sounded so bored as if he was narrating a bedtime story so I had to stop and return this audio book.
