À propos de cet audio

A hiker finds a journal deep inside a glacier that was lost during World War II. On its frozen pages are etched the secret locations of treasures lost since the 1940s. But something more ominous is scribed in the journal - something that threatens the Presidency of the United States.

Jake Pendleton and his new partner, Francesca Catanzaro, work for an "off the books" intelligence firm and are summoned to the White House where they are instructed to locate and acquire the book. Jake soon realizes there are others on a quest to find it as well. Others who will kill to get to it first.

Well written well read, story didn’t really pull me in. Maybe I just wasn’t feeling it. Probably still worth your time.

The butler did it

This Chuck Barrett story follows a former CIA Agent - now employed as an "Emissary" (an Assassin/Spy/Fixer/Investigator) for a *Black* Black-ops organization run by a master-spy that's part "Q" from the 'James Bond' movies and part "M". In this installment, a mysterious WWII-era book is discovered full of valuable secrets best kept hidden but pursued by several ruthless parties. The book is pretty hard to swallow at times - the conclusion being particularly eyeroll-worthy - but if you can manage it, it's a genuine Rollercoaster ride.

Doubtless, a fantastic reading performance by Scott Brick adds to my favorable impression of the book, too. I find Brick is best consumed after setting playback speed at 1.15X - but, regardless, he's great here.

Altogether, 'Breach of Power' rates 8 stars out of 10. The book has enough standalone merit that you can read it without knowing characters introduced in earlier installments in the 'Jake Pendleton' series.. but starting with them would certainly help to understand some motivations. The book is definitely a great find on the 'Plus' menu.. actually worth a credit if they ask for one.

Best In The Series?

This book had a lot of plots going on. It seemed to jump from one storyline to another without coming together cohesively. At times I wondered if I’d started listening to another story. The ending did put it all together but it felt like the author had to rush to make sense of the various plot lines and instead made it inconceivable and rather ridiculous. Not one to put your money on.
