Proven Mindfulness Techniques to Help You "Step Outside" Physical Pain

The newest treatment for pain is one of the oldest, most effective strategies for pain-free living: meditation. In Break Through Pain, meditation expert Shinzen Young teaches you how to "retrain" your relationship to pain through traditional meditation practices. Drawing from 20 years of results in the field, this widely respected teacher offers the essential meditation techniques that have proven effective at pain management centers around the country.

Break Through Pain adapts the core principles of mindfulness training to a practical process that can treat even extreme, chronic pain effectively, possibly reducing the need for drugs or surgery. You learn that by observing and opening to pain, you can stop resisting it and "step outside" physical suffering. Step-by-step techniques taught in plain language show how to overcome internal resistance - the key to transforming physical pain into a flow of pure energy. Break Through Pain presents four complete meditation exercises that, with regular practice, can tap your mind's own power to overcome physical pain.

Migraines

This has given such a powerful tool to accept my migraines and become functional again in a way medications had limits. That this technique existed for millenia is susprising. It gives without asking for anything in return.

Forget painkillers

Pain will be with you for the rest of your life. Understand to live with it, to let it flow, and teach what it wants to teach you. And do it through this book, the guidance that is, in my experience, the best one can get.

Excellent

This is a very excellent and helpful book. I was in tremendous pain when I started reading it and have much more equanimity and less pain. It was supposed to come with a .pdf booklet which was missing in what I got. I just got a one page outline of the chapters but the booklet is referenced in the audio. I would say still get it and use it as often as possible if you are hurting. It was still very helpful. although I would still like the .pdf. booklet.
