Not as good as the first

I enjoy these characters and this world, for the most part, and I liked the first book a lot. But this one was so bogged down in interpersonal drama. Griffin’s attitude and overprotectiveness really become his whole personality, and the final twist was obvious not only right away but also undermined the whole story.
I’m still considering reading the third book. I hope this is just some kind of middle book syndrome.
