Publisher's Summary
The first volume in an extraordinary trilogy of alternative history.
In this, the first volume of renowned author and historian Peter G. Tsouras’s alternative history trilogy, Great Britain’s support for the Confederacy takes it to the brink of war with the Union. The escape of a British-built Confederate ironclad finally ignites the heap of combustible animosities and national interests. When the US Navy seizes it in British waters, the ensuing battle spirals into all-out war. Napoleon III eagerly joins the British and declares war on the United States. Meanwhile, treason uncoils in the North as the antiwar Democrats, known as Copperheads, plot to overthrow the US government and take the Midwest into the Confederacy.
Britannia’s Fist brilliantly describes not just a war of stroke and counterstroke but one in which new technologies - repeating weapons, observation balloons, advances in naval ordnance and armament - become vital factors in the struggle of the young country against the Old World’s empires. For one of the great missed stories of the Civil War was not the advance of military technology but its impediment by incompetence, disorganization, and in some serious cases outright refusal to contemplate anything innovative. Britannia’s Fist is the compelling story of powerful historical personalities who come together as the Union goes into total war mobilization in the fight for its life.

Ive read history textbooks that were better
This is a poorly authored book and poorly narrated. First and formost it is supposed to be a NOVEL not a history text book, thus does not need names, date and places in every other sentence of the occurance of historical events, when things were invented etc. I did not purchase this book for a history lesson. I recieved that lesson from my father who was a professor of history at Harvard.
The author makes sure he uses the largest words he can to show you he bought a new dictionary for this book. I cant stand people who do that in everyday life and I cant stand reading books of that nature. It also shows the insecurity of the author.
Regarding the narrator he is the most boring monotone person I think I have ever heard. To me this was like listening to someone reading a history textbook in class sounding like the narrator is only doing it to get a paycheck whether he has performed well or not.
I was very disappointed in this book and will not purchase any books by this author in future.

something different
I've mostly read only of the after story of British intervention in the civil war ex: Harry Turtledove books but this a nice change of pace.

Bad narration
Good story, the narrator was horrifically monotone though, at times it was hard to tell characters apart

Enjoyable Story, lifeless narration
The contents of the book were quite enjoyable and I liked having the refresher on what actually happened so as to see where and why this could have been a possibility. All throughout I liked how the story was written but the narration really put a wrinkle in how much I enjoyed listening to it.

Interesting story but…..
An interesting and engaging alternate history, but nigh on impossible to listen to. A computer could do a better reading job. (in fact, sometimes it sounds like the computer is reading it!)
All the players in the book sounds like the same person, making it very hard to follow.

Great story
Great story, good action, but the narrator sounds like he's reading a refrigerator manual, monotone pace and pitch. It made me blank out and miss a lot of key parts because of this.

Bad Narration
The narrator's tone was almost too boring to listen to. Other than that, I liked the story.

In the right readers hands
In the right readers hands this could be an outstanding story. But and this is a very big butt, I don’t know where they found this guy. It was very difficult to follow along as his monotone voice never changed. It was hard to know who was talking and when someone else started. Great story terrible reader.

Well-written
A good alternate history in that the variance from actually history is quite plausible. Details were awesome. Only drawback was the reader's monotone which grated on my hear frequently. there was also little difference when characters were speaking which made dialogue difficult to follow. Otherwise, the book was quite enjoyable.
