Publisher's Summary

With all the intensity and whiplash turns of Sharp Objects and One of Us Is Lying, this engrossing psychological thriller by New York Times best-selling author Lauren Oliver is an unforgettable, mesmerizing tale of exquisite obsession, spoiled innocence, and impossible friendships.

It’s been five years since Summer Marks was brutally murdered in the woods.

Everyone thinks Mia and Brynn killed their best friend. That driven by their obsession with a novel called The Way into Lovelorn the three girls had imagined themselves into the magical world where their fantasies became twisted, even deadly.

The only thing is: They didn’t do it.

On the anniversary of Summer’s death, a seemingly insignificant discovery resurrects the mystery and pulls Mia and Brynn back together once again. But as the lines begin to blur between past and present and fiction and reality, the girls must confront what really happened in the woods all those years ago - no matter how monstrous.

Only ok

I kept hoping for more... and hoping for more... and it never got there. Definite teen fiction. The narration was not good. Some of the characters were so overdone it was painful to listen to. One of those books I finished because I wanted it to prove me wrong. Sadly- no such luck.

A lot to get to nothing.

It seemed like it took forever for the story to actually develop. And when it did develop there wasn't much going with the story. I found Broken Things to be boring.

Meh

Lauren Oliver is one of my favorite authors. However I feel this book fell short of her talent. I think that the story is very disjointed and not because it is told by several different characters and takes place in different timelines (then and now). In fact that is my favorite way of listening to a book (ever since Gone Girl changed the way a lot of books are written now) The story just did not flow and I find none of the characters are very likeable. I will not give up on Ms. Oliver, though I think I might wait to purchase her next book until I read what other reviewers are saying. #Disappointed #noflow #tagsgiving #Sweepstakes

Hard to follow

It took a wild to get into, but all in all wasn’t bad. Hard to follow at times with the “then” and “now” back-and-forth, and the reading of the story that was in the book... I wasn’t sure who’s perspective I was listening to. It wasn’t the worst book I’ve ever read/listen to and it was not great either.

Story didn’t draw me in

It was boring for me. The book finished after I drifted off to sleep, and I didn’t bother going back to finish. One of the characters has an awful British accent.
