Good Closure
I enjoyed the books, it wrapped things up nicely. Since I was looking for *what* the novellas were about and was struggling to find it before purchase, so I'll put it here. The first two are the previously released novellas, Queen Song and Steel Scars.
The first new novella takes place during the events of War Storm and is about a silver woman on the run and a river man in the Disputed lands (or free lands, depending on who you ask), and gives a good outside perspective (they hear about the lightning girl et al in the form of gossip), and you get a good feel for how other people live in this world.
The second new novella is about Evangeline and Elane right after War Storm living with the fall out from the events and trying to build a new life.
The third new novella is the one I was waiting for, taking place a couple months after War Storm when Mare and Cal meet back up.
Interwoven between them all is a historical narrative, telling about the formation and fall of the kingdoms, and ultimately giving what happened to Cal and Mare in the form of a historical narrative.
Overall, I enjoyed them all.

Everything but the kitchen sink
If you were like me, excited for the next book in the series to hear what happens next...? You'll be as disappointed as I am with this book!
The 1st 21 chapters were pure torture to get through!!! Just a bunch of miltary-like correspondence & history lessons. I felt like I was in school listening to my teacher drone on.
I normally ♡ Victoria Aveyard's books but it was like she just threw this book together... putting in a bunch of nonsense filler about characters that had very little to do with the Red Queen story, if they were even named at all, and then, when she finally got to the actual characters I was waiting to hear from (chapter 22) it was rushed to an uneventful ending in a sped up timeline. There was sooo much potential with the story and the characters. Im EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED!

Rushed?
I honestly could have done without this book. I would have just preferred to leave it where it was. At the beginning I was incredibly confused hearing the history of the the kings and queens.. I honestly didn't need that and felt like maybe it should have been covered earlier in the books but it wasn't really pertinent to the story. I was getting back stories on characters that I didn't even know (or just didn't catch their importance in the other books) and I've read all the books once and listened to all of them once, so I was a little confused by that. I guess the best way I can sum everything up is that I think the author felt rushed to give everyone an ending and added these back stories that I felt would have been better in other places in the previous books.
Don't get me wrong, I loved this series so incredibly much, but this final book just didn't do it for me.

This is my first negative review - this book was so bad I had to write one, I LOVE THIS SERIES - this book....horrible. The coded messages - way too may of them - "operative ...redacted...destination...redacted."...the book should be redacted.

Not worth the credit...
It’s a repeat of two stories in a previous novella. Its also a history of the world created by the author. I give the author full credit for the creation of a world and a history based on post apocalyptic North America. There are new short stories added-not great. I’m also more than a little over her pushing political agenda into her writing. Sad to say I will be returning-

Not great in audio
I think buying this book in audio was a mistake. It’s clearly meant for print or digital reading considering the content of the book. It’s mostly bland narration of background information for the rest of the series. I feel like I’m missing out on the actual purpose of the book, which is to show timelines and maps relating to the rest of the series like a “behind the scenes” look.
