Spanning the years 1900 to 1977, The Covenant of Water is set in Kerala, on South India’s Malabar Coast, and follows three generations of a family that suffers a peculiar affliction: in every generation, at least one person dies by drowning—and in Kerala, water is everywhere. Good Content but Nothing New
I’ll preface this by saying my review is going to be most relevant for those veracious consumers of positive psychology + personal development material. If you are, then you’ll find few new concepts shared here. Certainly some differing approaches which I enjoyed.
If this is your first exploration in the personal development space - I highly recommend this.
Narration is primarily Brooks with a couple of section with Oprah. Always nice to hear her voice.
Enjoy!

Captivating and motivating. Narrated in such a great manner, perfect for listening to while doing housework or a commute. Practical advice, actionable steps and little reminders.

You already know all of this
Disappointing use of a credit. If you might benefit from having someone tell you to use caution picking a mate, you should do less cell phone time, and be kind in your disagreements, this book is for you.
Narrator has a nice voice. Of course Oprah has a beautiful voice.
Might be for you, not so much for me.

So basic not worth reading
Long on analysis, short on actionable steps. I like Arthur Brooks so I read it. Really disappointed for someone that has made a career of this. I have found Oprah recommends a lot of half ass books so not sure what that’s about?

Insightful with science to back it up
I really enjoyed this book. There were new and interesting insights that I will apply to my everyday life. I liked that the author used researched based knowledge to support the premis of the book, not just opinion. I not only listened to it, I'm buying the hard copy to go back and highlight portions I wish to try incorporating into my life. I'm also recommending this book to family members that may find it helpful.

So basic you think you should know it but you don’t. Or don’t practice it
Quick read. Helpful reminder if you were already aware. Worthy of your time. I suspect you gain depending on where you are in life. I can see myself listening again in the future. Given the state of our society, learning to not take things personal or manage our emotions might be the solution to more than just happiness. Enjoy. Be open. Be kind.
