You can get happier. And getting there will be the adventure of your lifetime.

INSTANT #1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER

In Build the Life You Want, Arthur C. Brooks and Oprah Winfrey invite you to begin a journey toward greater happiness no matter how challenging your circumstances. Drawing on cutting-edge science and their years of helping people translate ideas into action, they show you how to improve your life right now instead of waiting for the outside world to change.

With insight, compassion, and hope, Brooks and Winfrey reveal how the tools of emotional self-management can change your life―immediately. They recommend practical, research-based practices to build the four pillars of happiness: family, friendship, work, and faith. And along the way, they share hard-earned wisdom from their own lives and careers as well as the witness of regular people whose lives are joyful despite setbacks and hardship.

Equipped with the tools of emotional self-management and ready to build your four pillars, you can take control of your present and future rather than hoping and waiting for your circumstances to improve. Build the Life You Want is your blueprint for a better life.

I don’t know who the intended audience could be for this book. It doesn’t deeply cover any topics and is more of an introduction to wellbeing theory. Oprah had a few paragraphs but nothing substantial.

Good advice but not very engaging

I was really hoping Oprah would voice the audiobook. I found the content hard to follow. I’m sure in paperback it might be easier? It does have useful information but requires a great deal of focus to retain.

Not my favorite

I enjoyed it, it has a lot homework pieces, a good amount of science data and should be done in way that gives you space and time to do so practical and rehearsals.

I believe you don't have to have a ton of free time to work on it as well.. give it plenty of space to make it habitual.

your a work in progress.. ❤️

It's starts with you and ends with you loving yourself to do the work

It was easy to follow with great examples. It’s absolutely one of the best books I’ve listened to.

Couldn’t stop listening

I read more than a third of the book and decided that it doesn’t offer anything new. The book repeats what has been written in many other books that summarize the positive psychology research. True to the principles of positive psychology, the book does not consider the role of the environment or historical factors such as trauma and solely focuses on forcing oneself to behave in certain ways and think positively even if it doesn’t feel natural.
These ideas could be harmful because they blame the individual for being unhappy and could discourage them from pursuing better life conditions.

Nothing new to offer
