Five killers. One train journey. But who will survive? An original and propulsive thriller from a massive Japanese bestseller.

A major motion picture starring Brad Pitt and Sandra Bullock.

Satoshi looks like an innocent schoolboy but he is really a viciously cunning psychopath. Kimura's young son is in a coma thanks to him, and Kimura has tracked him onto the bullet train heading from Tokyo to Morioka to exact his revenge. But Kimura soon discovers that they are not the only dangerous passengers onboard.

Nanao, the self-proclaimed 'unluckiest assassin in the world', and the deadly partnership of Tangerine and Lemon are also travelling to Morioka. A suitcase full of money leads others to show their hands. Why are they all on the same train, and who will get off alive at the last station?

Bullet Train was originally published in Japan with the title Maria Beetle.

What the critics say

"A locked-room crime drama played out at 200mph" (The Times)

Editorial Review

Bullet Train is an excitement-filled action story that is a gripping and entertaining listen. This locked-room noir-style crime drama will have listeners on the edge of their seats.

Unlikely coincidences, crime lords, and villains fill the chapters for a story that is as enticing as it is suspenseful. And it is not just the train that is fast-paced - the plot drives forward with force, making for a binge-worthy listen you won’t want to pause.

This audiobook adaptation comes from the author Kotaro Isaka, translated into English by Sam Malissa. Together they create an epic tale of high-stakes crime, painting the scene of the Japanese bullet trains with careful craft and all the right amounts of tension and action. This audiobook adaptation is narrated by Adam Sims, a seasoned narrator with experience in the mystery and thriller genre. He has voiced many thrilling tales and is well versed in adding all the right levels of drama, tension, and building crescendo to the story. Listeners will love the way he pulls them in and slowly builds the story to its rushing, action-filled climax. His performance is riveting and pairs perfectly with Isaka and Malissa’s style.

Bullet Train was originally released as an audiobook in 2021 but has gained notice due to a major film adaptation featuring Brad Pitt and Sandra Bullock. Its classic noir style, paired with the high-tech setting of a thrilling ride on a high-speed train in Tokyo, Japan, bridges the gap between classic noir stories and contemporary suspense thrillers. Dynamic, quick, and full of dubious characters, it is the perfect thrilling listen. Jump aboard the Bullet Train and get swept away on a dramatic and dark journey.

Great Story and Great performance. I can’t help searching some more books from the author. Happy to find that it’s the same narrator.
