Some similarities to Margaret Atwood's Alias Grace. I thoroughly enjoyed the book and the performance by Morven Christie. I see that there is a film adaptation in progress. There is no way a movie will be as powerful as the novel, so please listen to it or read it first.

really loved the story and would have finished faster but the narration made it really hard to listen to for me for some reason. very somber and slow paced - appropriate for the story just not my cup of tea.

Such a compelling tale! Beautiful writing, a unique setting, interesting characters. Loved this book so much, I was sorry for it to end.

I read "The Good People" by Hannah Kent earlier this year and absolutely adored it, so was excited to see another historical fiction by her available on Audible. Burial Rites follows an accused murderess and her struggles to survive on what is an often harsh and unforgiving land.

It is well performed with strong characters, but I found it a bit difficult to get through it in the end. If you are interested in Scandinavian history or like her other works I would highly recommend. Otherwise I might start with "The Good People" which focuses on Irish folklore as I found it to be a stronger book overall.
