Innovation is the main event of the modern age, the reason we experience both dramatic improvements in our living standards and unsettling changes in our society. Forget short-term symptoms like Donald Trump and Brexit, it is innovation itself that explains them and that will itself shape the 21st century for good and ill. Yet innovation remains a mysterious process, poorly understood by policy makers and businessmen, hard to summon into existence to order, yet inevitable and inexorable when it does happen.

Influence Without Authority is the classic guide to getting what you need from people you don't control. Getting things done requires collaboration, and convincing others to contribute requires political skill; this book introduces the Exchange Model, in which you get what you need by offering something of value in return. The key lies in knowing what the other person values - that's their "currency", and it's your immediate tool for coaxing their cooperation. This model has been proven over decades, as organizations around the world have turned toward collaboration.

Why is profitable growth so hard to achieve and sustain? Most executives manage their companies as if the solution to that problem lies in the external environment - find an attractive market, formulate the right strategy, win new customers. But when Bain & Company's Chris Zook and James Allen (authors of the best-selling Profit from the Core) researched this question, they found that when companies fail to achieve their growth targets, 90 percent of the time the root causes are internal, not external.

In The Outsiders, you'll learn the traits and methods striking for their consistency and relentless rationality that helped these unique leaders achieve such exceptional performance. Humble, unassuming, and often frugal, these "outsiders" shunned Wall Street and the press, and shied away from the hottest new management trends. Instead, they shared specific traits that put them and the companies they led on winning trajectories: a laser-sharp focus on per share value as opposed to earnings or sales growth; an exceptional talent for allocating capital and human resources; and the belief that cash flow, not reported earnings, determines a company's long-term value.

Good initial book into this topic
The book is a great starting point to the broad topic of acquisition entrepreneurship. The author doesn't spend too much time on any one subject but he raises good points and provides exercises/ recommends further readings. Parts of it, especially the financial/accounting topics are very simplified.

Don’t Pass on Reading This Book
I never review anything. I listen to or read a new book every couple day’s as knowledge is the fuel for the future but only useful when put into action. This book is - by an order of magnitude - one of the most valuable books I’ve consumed. There’s is more information in this book that can be used as actionable insights than the past hundred or so I’ve read. If your an empire builder as I am - here’s the path growth you’ve been searching for!

Fantastic! Frameworks, Reference, Overviews, Insight.
Walker has created a fantastic reference book that does an amazing job of presenting a reader with a high level overview of this industry and then equips the reader with necessary frameworks, perspective, and tips to be able to adeptly navigate the entire process of acquiring businesses. Having already navigated a top MBA program and the CFA curriculum I still found an amazing degree of value in this book. For those looking to begin their entrepreneurial journey, refine their best practices, or sell their current company, I highly recommend adding this book to the top of your reading list.
Personally, I crushed the audible over the course of a few early AM walks set to 2.5x speed, ordered a couple paperback copies (one for my own desk reference / checklist and a second to hand off in time to someone as I need to get them up to speed on an element in the book), sent audible links to a couple of potential future investors (to help give them perspective on what working together in the future might entail), and sent an audible link to a business owner friend who has not yet gone through the process of prepping his business for sale.
