À propos de cet audio

Some predicted that the AI singularity would result in robots destroying the world. None of them ever understood that it was the sales algorithms they had to be afraid of.

After the arrival of the multiversal monopoly BuyMort, life got brutal. All systems were through BuyMort. All currency was through BuyMort. All sales were through BuyMort. You could resist, you could compete, but it didn’t really matter because in the end you used BuyMort—or you perished. BuyMort be praised.

But not everyone’s happy with the new system. Some, even, want to see it destroyed.

It’s quick. It’s convenient. And it will help people kill you and your family as readily as it will help them sell you knickknacks for a quick mortie. Because BuyMort doesn’t care about anything except the bottom line.

Enter Tyson Dawes, a no-cares slacker with a traumatic past, two wrinkled bucks in his wallet, and a crap job caretaking a crap campground in the desert sands of Arizona. He had a deal with the world. He didn’t change it, and it didn’t change him. Seemed simple enough. He liked it, anyway.

BuyMort changed all that the moment it let loose a torrent of alien entrepreneurs upon his planet, intent on selling everything that hadn’t been tagged through the system and classified as his private property.

When a man has little, he cherishes it. When that little is lost, he’ll do whatever it takes and change into whatever he needs to be able to get that little bit back.

I found this a really fun book that kept me greatly entertained and I look forward to the series continuing.

I found the protagonist interesting the world changes drastically and he goes from a misfit loser to… suddenly a person with what it takes to survive and thrive in the new world of Buymort.

Lots of excitement, action, and laughs. The book is well narrated and I enjoyed the performance. Not quite to the level of voice work from my favorite (Jeff Hayes), but very good.

Fun story that kept me laughing

Overall it was a great book. And an excellent narrator match up. Very good progression of the MC being a “done with the world” slacker who knows the limits of what he can get away with. To the guy in charge.

Fun twist to the introduction of fantasy races to Earth.

But for those who are sensitive to foul language be warned. There’s a decent bit in here. Not enough to spoil the book for me. But enough that I noticed it and it soured some parts.

The way the priest says “buymort” was also painful to listen to. Maybe that was the point. But I was regretting using headphones whenever she went started preaching.

Wild fun ride. Foul mouth on the MC though.

Honestly, this was a fun and entertaining listen. BuyMort: Grand Opening is not your typical post apocalyptic story. It blends satire, action, and absurdity in a way that works surprisingly well and ends up being thoroughly enjoyable. There were plenty of laugh out loud moments and a few good natured eye rolls, but that is part of the charm.

The story does not take itself too seriously, but still manages to build an interesting world with a cast of quirky, memorable characters. The narrator (Wayne Mitchell) does a fantastic job bringing the main character to life. He really captures the dry tone and reluctant attitude that sells the role without overdoing it.

The character development and unfolding plot kept me curious and left me wanting more. It sets things up nicely for a bigger story, and I will definitely be checking out Book 2.

If you are looking for something fun, offbeat, and fast paced with solid narration and growing characters, BuyMort is worth it. Be a smart shopper… BuyMort!
