Publisher's Summary

Restored to a working body, Morgan Locke has returned to Troth to seek the legendary athenaeum at Vigil in the hopes it will produce a solution to the enchantment binding the elves. But elves are not the only creatures now stepping out of folklore: the demons are coming, and they bring with them the armies of the dead.

If they do not want to see their world consumed, Morgan and his companions will have to find the answers, whether they come from books...or bloodshed. Time is running out....

Swoon, swoon, and another swoon.

Narrator Philip Battley gave an alluring delivery. Listeners will lick up every smoky word he utters. His sweet spot on the speedometer is 1.4 speed. His English accent will pull listeners deep into the extraordinary regency world of epic fantasy. Using solely his voice he will entrap innocent and unknowing listeners like flies in molasses. Leaving them dazed with wonder and excitement in a world where elves, demons, angels, and talking fury genets live. This narrator uses his voice as a drawing carrot, it will lift the mood of any downhearted listener, by taking them on a journey where they can escape reality to lose themselves and forget their names.

This series was doused with world-building and OMG, so much plot! It bubbled up and over the brim of my imagination. No stone was left unturned. The character building was well rounded, but unfortunately, it lacked the satisfying erotism we hear in true dark fantasies. A lot of sex and rape was alluded to, but it’s my opinion that it would have so much more punch to the gut if we had a little more to work with. The author was able to describe the pain and suffering of the protagonist so realistically in book one, but I found the lack of deeper explorations of the raping and torture quite lacking and very superficially done. It is almost as if the author got scared to go there in books two and three. The act of taking without permission, without choice was the center of the story and it is for this reason I felt left hanging and wondering why write dark and scary stuff if you don’t want to describe it?

I loved the friendliness towards gender equality in this series.

I do recommend this series.
