Publisher's Summary

She made a deal with the Dakkari devil. Now, he owns her.

On the unforgiving planet of Dakkar, I did what all the humans in our village did: kept my head down, worked to provide for my family, and certainly didn’t break any Dakkari laws to risk inciting the alien race’s merciless wrath.

Unfortunately, the same couldn’t be said for my brother, and one careless mistake brings a horde of the nomadic, barbarian Dakkari straight to our doorstep, led by their powerful horde king - a cold, ruthless, battle-scarred warrior demanding retribution.

In order to save my brother’s life, I do the unthinkable.

I sell myself to the horde king as his war prize. I agree to warm his furs, travel with his horde across the wild lands of Dakkar, and never see my family again. But as I struggle with my new reality, I discover that the surly, mysterious, dominant horde king never intended for me to be his concubine.... He wants me as his queen.

Captive of the Horde King is a full-length science fiction romance audiobook with a "happily ever after" ending. It kicks off the brand-new series, Horde Kings of Dakkar. Each audiobook follows a different couple and can be listened to as a stand-alone.

***Alien Dothraki? Love it!***

Ok so as the headline suggests this book summed up is pretty much Alien, Dothraki( from GOT) with the story line from a Scottish Romance. Yes this seems like a weird mix but it totally works! Luna our Heroine Is from a Earth family that settled in a human town on the planet Dakkan. She agrees to exchange her life to live with the Horde (Dakkan natives) To make up for a huge cultural mistake of her brother. She thinks that will become a concubine of the Hordes king but no he has other plans in mind.

Luna drove me nuts at the beginning because she had little cultural sensitivity or awareness which is what pretty much was the reason her brother got her into this mess in the first place. She acted a immaturely and ignorantly and that's just not my type of heroine. Though out this story Luna does go on a journey of personal growth though that makes up for that. As she struggles with her own issues she soon learns that she will also have to contend with other evil races that settled on Dakkar and evils that are a bit closer to home.

I liked this story quite a bit! I definitely suggest reading or listening to the audiobook. The narration was also great. I definitely want to continue the journey in the next book in the series!

So happy when I found this in Audible!

I read this book a few months ago and really enjoyed it. You have an older sister taking care of a younger brother that doesn't always think things through. They live in a human settlement on an alien planet where they are not allowed to hunt for food or have fire touch the ground. When the Dakari come to investigate and lunch her brother for burning the crops Out gives herself to the horde king to save him. Luna thinks she is going to be the kings concubine but later finds out she is to be his queen because of her beauty and strength he also believes she was brought to him by their goddess.

There is a lot of misunderstandings that happen due to language and simply because he assumes she already knows about their culture. Luna is accepted by all of the horde with the exception of the king's aunt who doesn't think she is good for him or the horde. The aunt goes as far as helping an evil tribe to kidnap her, but I don't want to spoil the ending. I will say that the king does allow her brother to join the horde so they can be together. Luna is also helping the king and others to understand that the laws that humans have to follow are starving them. I believe the following books will tell of how the Dakari and Humans understand each other better and Dakari help humans to learn how to take care of themselves with also respecting and not over using the planet's resources.

I can't wait for the rest of the series. My only real problem was that this was written in a single point of view, I enjoy a story more when you have in dual Point of view. If the following stories are in dual POV it would be great to also have the Audible with both male and female voice actors.
I loved that the story has interesting world building and the characters learn to fall in love with each other, it's not insta love. There is plenty of insta attraction with no rape or forced submission, but plenty of mutual steamy sexy times.

I highly recommend this either way you pay, you will enjoy it!!!

DNF

I just can’t with this female heroine. What the hell is it with these “feminist” writer making women strong by having them stubborn to the point of stupid. It make the book unbelievable and unenjoyable. Why couldn’t Luna have been a strong intelligent women that used her cunning and ingenuity to bring a man to his knees. Nooooo we have to be defiant and constantly have a monologue about how we will not be dominated in order to “strong.”
This story was just too full of contradictions for me. Found myself too damn frustrated with a heroine who would rather starve for a dumb ass principle that won’t help anyone, than start trying to figure out how she can help them. Note to author a strong person male or female is not stubborn, but determined.

NOPE

The start of the book was interesting and teased potential. A ‘strong’ woman gives up her life to save her brother, clearly understanding what she is giving up, why she is and what she thinks is going to be expected of her.

Instead of following through, she ‘protests’ EVERYTHING to keep her independence or something? This story would have been enjoyable if the main female was written with having intelligence and using that intelligence to her advantage. Instead she was referred to as ‘stubborn.’ She was not stubborn, but petulant and unbelievably stupid.

I am giving 5 stars for performance. Narrator performed ‘dense’ very well.

Disappointed

I wanted to love this book. Disappointed with female lead and her dialogue was just cheesy. I will not continue the series. Narration was adequate.

Alpha king

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Zoey Draven has a writing style that sucks you in from the beginning so I was totally involved in the story. The king was a pleasant surprise in how he treated Luna and what he would do to make her happy and keep her safe, even though he appears to be a total barbarian. This book has romance, suspense, and an unlikely villian. Lia Langola did a great job of bringing the story to life. I cannot wait for the next book in the series. The ending was a nice set up for the next book that I hope comes to audible soon.

Awful just awful

This is the worse book ever. How do you come to someone else's planet and agree to serve and then get mad about everything and be self righteous and judgmental. Terrible
