Story
Just when Glennon Doyle Melton was beginning to feel she had it all figured out - three happy children, a doting spouse, and a writing career so successful that her first book catapulted to the top of the New York Times best seller list - her husband revealed his infidelity and she was forced to realize that nothing was as it seemed. A recovering alcoholic and bulimic, Glennon found that rock bottom was a familiar place. In the midst of crisis, she knew to hold on to what she discovered in recovery: that her deepest pain has always held within it an invitation to a richer life.

Story
There is a voice of longing inside each woman. We strive so mightily to be good: good partners, daughters, mothers, employees, and friends. We hope all this striving will make us feel alive. Instead, it leaves us feeling weary, stuck, overwhelmed, and underwhelmed. We look at our lives and wonder: Wasn’t it all supposed to be more beautiful than this? We quickly silence that question, telling ourselves to be grateful, hiding our discontent—even from ourselves.

Story
Social scientist Brené Brown has ignited a global conversation on courage, vulnerability, shame, and worthiness. Her pioneering work uncovered a profound truth: Vulnerability - the willingness to show up and be seen with no guarantee of outcome - is the only path to more love, belonging, creativity, and joy. But living a brave life is not always easy: We are, inevitably, going to stumble and fall. It is the rise from falling that Brown takes as her subject in Rising Strong.

Publisher's Summary
The first book from the number one New York Times best-selling author of Untamed
The inspiring and hilarious instant New York Times best-seller from the beloved writer, speaker, activist, and founder of Momastery, whose memoir Love Warrior was an Oprah’s Book Club selection.
Glennon Doyle’s hilarious and poignant reflections on our universal (yet often secret) experiences have inspired a social movement by reminding women that they’re not alone. In Carry On, Warrior, she shares her personal story in moving, refreshing, and laugh-out-loud new essays and some of the best-loved material from Momastery.
Her writing invites us to believe in ourselves, to be brave and kind, to let go of the idea of perfection, and to stop making motherhood, marriage, and friendship harder by pretending they’re not hard.
In this one woman’s attempt to love herself and others, listeners will find a wise and witty friend who shows that we can build better lives in our hearts, homes, and communities.

Authentic, Truthful, Inspirational
I started with Glennon's newest book, Untamed. I was in awe. She had referred to her past books and explained she had changed, grown, was different and with this she lost some of her followers. I was curious... what did she think before? how did she get to who she is today?
After listening to Carry On, Warrior, I only gained even more respect for Glennon. She has changed in some of her thoughts and beliefs, but not in a radical, "im a whole different person" kind of way, but rather a natural and authentic way. She is the most sincere author I have ever heard. Her words make me realize I am on my way to purchasing her second book, Love Warrior, before re-listening to Untamed. 😍

FINDING MY VOICE
It’s almost as if the noose that has been tied around my throat my entire life is slowly starting to break away and I am getting the “kick-ass” voice back that God gave me, that no one since I was a child has ever allowed me to use, Thank You Glennon!!!
This book is amazing, it stirred and strengthened every cell in my body as I worked my way through the raw truths and the determination of this author Glennon...
PS.... I too love her lady that knits ;)
And draw most of my strength from her.

So glad I went back and listened to her older books
I’m SO glad I went back and listened to Glennon’s older books. I am a huge fan of her newest book and podcast and I didn’t know if I would still relate to her in her earlier writing. But she is just as thoughtful, funny, and inspirational as we all know and love her to be.

Get Ready to Exercise your Bookmarks
Any additional comments?
This book has been overwhelmingly insightful for me. I have placed more bookmarks in this single book than I have in my entire Audible library combined. It is touching, funny at times, sad at times, and overall, it's real in a way that I hadn't anticipated. Listen to this book. Read this book. Some part of it will speak to you. I would also like to note that I am the LEAST religious person on the face of the earth--generally, mentions of god in literature make me cringe, but not in this book. The author talks about her relationship with god in a way that is so open and so far from judgmental that I am entirely comfortable with her frequent references.

MUST READ!
I think I expected some sort of bubble-gum psychology in this book, but I was really in for a surprise. Glennon is real. She is funny, sad, hopeful, broken, and unbelievably strong. I laughed at times, cried a few times, and laughed a few more - out loud and uncontrollably! I don't want to tease even a single story, but I can say that you won't regret picking this book up. I opted for the audio version, read by Glennon, and I felt like she was right there telling her stories to me. Love, love, love this book.

Good, but not Great
This book is good, but not great. I just finished 3 audio selections by Brene Brown and they were soooo wonderful, this one (although different) pales. (The best of Brene's was "The Power of Vulnerability" speech, fabulous!) Glennon was an ok narrator, at first I really did not like her voice and thought they should have hired a professional. The emotion in her voice sounds controlled, like she is reading instead of telling a story. I did get used to her narration. Glennon tells some deep stories I think every Mom can relate to - that's what kept me listening and they are good stories. She talks a lot about God. I am a Christian as well, but sometimes I thought it was too much and over the top. The overall theme of the book is to forgive yourself and move on, a good theme. One we all need to be reminded of since we are hardest on ourselves.

Poignant!
If you could sum up Carry On, Warrior in three words, what would they be?
Read This Book!
What was one of the most memorable moments of Carry On, Warrior?
When Glennon writes a letter to her son about how she and her husband would deal with his coming out as gay ... if he ever did. The blog and letter was written when her son was 10 and probably not even sure what the future held. The blog Glennon writes speak to our hipocrasy about marriage, being Christian, loving all God's creatures no matter who they decide to love.
What does Glennon Melton bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
She dictates her own blog, and it feels like you are spending time with Glennon. It was a real treat.

This book is all of the things.
It is delicious and cozy and real and honest. So very relatable. Had me in tears on several occasions. Putting truth and feelings into words. Very powerful. This is one of the only books I've read (listened to) that I can't wait to read again!

YES! to everything Glennon has to say
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Yes! I have already bought copies of this book for friends/family and would recommend the audio version as well because it allows us even greater insight into the author's tone and message through her delivery.
What other book might you compare Carry On, Warrior to and why?
Traveling Mercies by Ann Lamont. This is also a collection of essays that discuss her life and her spirituality as a Christian. But this book is more of a direct commentary on the author's life and on life in general - some essays aren't stories at all.
Have you listened to any of Glennon Doyle Melton’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
This is her only one, thus far.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Both - on many occasions. Even on repeated listening, I still have a strong emotional reaction to this book.
Any additional comments?
If you are a woman, and especially if you are a mother, you NEED to listen to this book. It's a MUST HAVE in your personal library.
