Franciscan priest Richard Rohr feels that there is no more challenging spiritual issue than the “problem of the self". Most of contemporary spiritual teaching, he believes, is still trying to inspire and fortify the private self, the autonomous "I". Even much church work is trying to evangelize and sacramentalize what many would call "the false self." Basic transformation is not expected, but merely a new set of beliefs and practices or loyal membership in a new group.

Drawing on the experiences of these influential black Canadians, Cecil Foster’s They Call Me George demonstrates the power of individuals and minority groups in the fight for social justice and shows how a country can change for the better.

Aleksandr I. Solzhenitsyn’s startling book led, almost 30 years later, to Glasnost, Perestroika, and the "Fall of the Wall". One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich brilliantly portrays a single day, any day, in the life of a single Russian soldier who was captured by the Germans in 1945 and who managed to escape a few days later. Along with millions of others, this soldier was charged with some sort of political crime, and since it was easier to confess than deny it and die, Ivan Denisovich "confessed" to "high treason" and received a sentence of 10 years in a Siberian labor camp.

Publisher's Summary
Margaret Trudeau, former wife of Pierre Trudeau, 15th Prime Minister of Canada, mother of Justin Trudeau, Canada's current Prime Minister, and international mental health advocate, brought her intimate staged performance, Certain Woman of an Age, to the Minetta Lane Theatre, where it was recorded live for Audible Theater. In this "fearless and vulnerable" (Chicago Tribune) one-woman show, Trudeau opens up - with refreshing candor - about her extraordinary life and her encounters with some of the most important icons of our time. It's a gripping portrait of motherhood, marriage, life-altering tragedy, and personal triumph. Co-written with Alix Sobler and directed by Kimberly Senior, Certain Woman of an Age is a funny, honest examination of one of the world’s most fascinating figures.

Fascinating and Brave
I have always had a soft spot for Margaret Trudeau. When living in Ottawa I had the privilege of knowing people who either knew, or had met, her. While I was never that fortunate, the insights gained from friends who had, painted a picture of a wonderful and caring person. People who met her - some reluctantly - because they were taken to an event or dinner, came away loving her. Margaret's honesty and insights into herself, and the people she has met, continualy enrich us all. This play is just another example.
Must say her comment re Mick Jagger was perfect. :-) Loved many apects of this audio. Too many to review. So glad she had the courage to do this. One star was lost to the nervous laugh too often.......perhaps unfair, as this had to be super hard to do. Thank you Margaret and all who were on this team.

Sadly, sounds like she learned a script by heart
I thought this was okay, but not as good as her book Changing My Mind for a couple of reasons:
- she is live on stage and it comes across like she is acting to a script, which is in fact what she was doing. and not just telling her story, which is fascinating on its own,
- there is of course that 21st century enjoyment of profanity to make a point, which we all need like a hole in the head, never mind telling the audience to join you in yelling f-u out loud three times... really?
That having been said, it is a touching story she tells of different times in Mental Health and what she's been through in her life, with some funny moments, and a FANTASTIC definition of depression, which she gives towards the end.

Loved it. Lived it. Living it
My dad was bi-polar, it was hell, so much of her story is familiar. Her def of clinical depression hit home, it is spot on. Like she said there is still such a stigma today on mental illness, forty yrs ago it was brutal. I enjoyed her telling her own story in her own voice, who else can have the passion or feeling to tell it. It’s sad to see negative reviews condemning the way she spoke, how shallow. She got into some very dark parts of her life, it takes character and courage to say,”yes,I was taken to the hospital by the police and strapped to a gurney”. Nothing about her story portrays a selfish, indulgent person. I would not have the arrogance to criticize any part of her story, having NOT been the one that lived it.

Wah! Wah!
I got three quarters through this and couldn’t hear anymore. In honor of all my female friends that have suffered with mental disorders who bravely walked their oft times heart-wrenching paths, this woman made me shake my head. Spoiled, indulged, and thankless. Little do you hear of the heart ache she caused. It’s all about her and using her mental problems as an excuse for acts of immaturity and indulgence.

While I like Trudeau's openness about life and mental illness, this all felt a bit thin. A decent yarn. I wish she had gone deeper.
Trudeau is a bit breathy with her talking.
