Story
Joe takes his first step into exile, and is promptly unable to breathe. This new Zone has a higher concentration of power, magnitudes denser. His first task is to survive, but mere survival is the least of his concerns. The Zone he has landed on has been in a state of constant war for thousands of years, a tug of war between the Elven and Dwarven societies. Not choosing a side is the same as declaring both to be your personal enemy. Though he is resistant, Joe reluctantly decides to go with the group he thinks will help him grow the most.

Publisher's Summary
Bloodwraith thought of himself as an effective villain, until a single adventurer destroyed his entire lair. With his last breath, he switched bodies with the adventurer and discovered that his world was built on lies. Alien beings from another dimension were using his world as a game...and now, he was one of them.
The problem is, Bloodwraith has no experience being an adventurer. He was a mage, but his new body is only good at hitting things. He relied on undead minions, but now, he has no choice but to depend on other people. And worst of all, strange boxes are constantly appearing in his vision, describing the world in unfamiliar, nonsensical terms.
Taking over the world is off the table because the alien gods might be watching. To survive, Bloodwraith will need to learn the truth about himself and his world. That means acting like an adventurer, at least for now.

Couldn't put it down
I don't normally like awful protagonists. And Bloodwraith, once second in command to the dearly departed dark lord, is a bad person. Or was. Now he's stuck in the body of heroic barbarian and he's feeling something that he would shudder to hear called empathy or a conscience.
There's a great deal of humour in Bloodwraith's situation. It's an awful lot of fun seeing him struggle both with unfamiliar RPG mechanics and being a hero alike. He has two companions - a kind and ever cheerful dwarf fighter, and a glitched tutorial level NPC - who are fantastic characters in their own right. And Bloodwraith slowly grew on me as he slowly grows from a two-dimensional moustache-twirling villain into a genuine, feeling human being.
I marathoned this novel - I honestly couldn't stop listening, curious what new circumstances, dangerous or hilarious or both, that Sarah Lin would throw Bloodwraith into. I'm looking forward to reading the sequel.
Bryan G. Lamb does a great job of the narration, which is both clear and well-acted. Though, as this is a self-published work, it was not recorded in a professional sound studio, and so there are sometimes (faint) background noises and other mostly minor issues.

Awesome!
What a wonderful read! I'm a female litrpg fan, and this just became one of my favorite series. This book has all the good stuff like character development and plot progression without any harem dynamics. In fact, I don't think I've ever read another book in this genre where romance was portrayed with more tact or skill. I mean, the fact that an evil lord of the undead is a better person than the hero who nearly defeated him is hilarious, if hardly surprising.
I also loved the mystery of the world and I can't wait to learn more about how it all works! I'm super excited for the next book!

Fun listen
I'm always a fan of a refreshing POV. A NPC being the MC isn't necessarily an original idea but it's way less common then the alternative in the litrpg genre. The book is well written with good action, game dynamics, and a little humor. You dont feel overwhelmed by stats at the end of the chapters like so many other books, which I'm not a fan of ( and neither is the MC). An interesting quirk in the book is that it contains a bit of romance; nothing over the top but it gives the characters a little extra depth. Overall this book is a solid option if your looking to kill sometime between more popular titles.

Fun story, Fantastic narrator
A Great start to a Litrpg with a unique spin. I enjoy the main character, his interactions with those around him and his view on things. The conflicts were fun and the stats and numbers were wonderfully to the point and amusingly shoved aside at times by the mc. The narrator was amazing and his voice is what made this mc standout in my mind compared to other series. Im excited to see what comes next!

Surprisingly great NPC LitRPG!
I took a surprisingly long time to get this book because I was a bit turned off by the MC being "evil", but all those concerns ended up being completely unfounded, and I really enjoyed this book and am eagerly awaiting the next one! Excellent writing and narration. I listened to it all in pretty much one go.

One of the best books I have ever read
In short: Listen to the sample, it is pretty much what you get. Everything about this book is up to that standard: The humour, world, characters, performance, story, themes, and so forth.
If you like the sample, get the book. You won't regret it.
