Too unbelievable
For this type of book I can appreciate believable scenes and a decent story line. Picturing a single man taking on groups of armed Chinese with a bow is too much for me.

Acceptance and survival!
We’ve been here before, the premise that Russia attacks the United States from the west and China from the east. EMP’s follow as the coup de grâce, and the United States is left in chaos and terror. Three years into the war, civilian survivors are becoming tired of running, hiding, and fighting. Mental exhaustion, despair, and panic settle in. Self-preservation can cause unexpected and unusual behavior in people. People who were your friends suddenly become your enemy. This first volume of the series revolves around such behavior. The war is not going well, people are giving up, trading their freedom for sustenance and comfort. History can and will repeat itself. Fight back!
Take back America! Chaos Erupts is the first book in a 'fun' new survival series by the prolific Jack Hunt. This time around Mr. Hunt invited us to an America that has been invaded, and treats us to a story about young Miles Arrington as he joins in the fight to retake the country. Like most of Mr. Hunt's work, the book features a solid cast pop characters and an enjoyable storyline. I consider Mr. Hunt's books to be the literary version of a popcorn flick. Relaxing, mindless fun. And I mean that in a good way. They are a fun break from reality. The only real complaint I have is that the actual initial invasion and the early days are basically recapped rather than experience. I think the actual invasion would have been a really fun story to witness first hand, but I really I am just nitpicking, lol. I think this is the first time I've heard Chris Monteiro's narration and have to say he delivered a solid performance. Too short
Decent story just too short for the cost. 15 words minimum to suit a review is silly.

I wanted to like it…
Interesting premise. Storyline is a bit weak though. The dialogue drones on and makes one say, “get on with the story already”. The dude reading this is horrendous and his multiple voices are cringey. Glad this one was free from audible.

Jumpy
Tried to get into it, but it jumped around too much. Also, the beginning seemed to gloss over so much potential story that I would have liked to hear. I don’t want to give parts of the book away, but this book could have gone so much deeper into great plot lines. Unfortunately, the combination of jumping back and forth and not enough detail was a game ender for me. Narration was well done.

An Invasion/Occupation Thriller
Jack Hunt begins his 'Outlaws of the Midwest' series during a coordinated attack by the Chinese and Russians on US soil. As fighting breaks out, the coup de grace is released--an EMP that leaves the rest of the country in the dark. But Americans won't go down easily. Young Miles' militia-leader father, gathers his group and heads to war. Miles comes of age while fierce fighting is still taking place and joins fellow militia members in the West. He returns home years later to find his small Missouri town under Chinese control, Hellfire by Miles' hand rains down on occupiers and collaborators alike.
I love Hunt's action scenes. He ramps up tension and suspense to a nail-biting level. Yes, some of the sequences are a bit over-the-top, single-handed action-hero fare, but Hunt has a great ability to suspend my disbelief and put me right into the front seat, delivering a masterful viscerally thrilling experience. If you're looking for signature Hunt action, this does not disappoint.
Hunt's characters are diverse and add complexity to the overall story. He's not afraid to write a character as despicable and irredeemable. While these types of characters make me squirmy inside with dislike, I can't deny they make the story more interesting. I don't think it's spoiler-y to say that not all of Hunt's characters can be trusted.
The setting and plot are completely plausible. This type of attack seems true-to-life given our current global environment. The idea of control over destruction by the invaders comes through in Hunt's telling of the story.
Chris Monteiro gives the listener a great performance with his narration. His delivery, especially of dialogue, feels natural. It brings an added immediacy to the story.
Highly recommended.

Great series
Love everything by Jack Hunt.
This is no exception!
Miles & Gunner are like everyday guys who live like they are superheroes. Al of the side characters were great too. Would love to to know more about Snow. I think he was the most fascinating character of all.
Chris Monreiro did an amazing job narrating this series!
